 Hi All
Thanks for all the great info, while I have owned several mhs this is the first class A so I am going to keep asking questions so have patience. Does anyone have a F53 2004 bounder or the like that would like to share their milage with me. I need to drive to Alaska and I only have $8.95 think I can make it. Have a great day and thanks again.

Should be plenty, enough left over for breakfast .
I have been figuring about 50 cents a mile for gas when I am traveling and usually get pretty close for the budget. This year for our Glacier trip 50 cents was right on the money. We get between 6 to 8 miles per gallon.
Next year I might have to up the budget to 60 cents a mile.
Also, we tow.

I have a 99 pace arrow. in 2009 we drove out west for over 6500 miles. We averaged a little over 8.32 miles per gallon. I drove at about 62 miles per hour.

If it of any use, from So. California, each trip we have made to Alaska has been between 9000 and 10000 total miles. With our 99 Rexall Vision V29 on the F53, towing a full sized Blazer we got an honest 8.0 mpg including the genset time.

Seems that every time a gas mileage question appears, the bottom line is that some lucky (or is it careful?) folks get '8.something'. Most of us get '7.something', and the unlucky ones with ancient rigs pulling a toad are lucky to get 5. I'd think you'ld need to note whether you want a gas or diesel comparison, though. No fair comparing a brandy new diesel with a 15 year old gasser, I'd say.

Hi nbounder
Sorry you are right, I thought the f53s were all gassers. Mine is a gas unit, thanks for the info.

Wrinkles you're right about the F53 chassis being a gasser. Ford has made them for many years. The earlier ones had a 460 CID V8, there are also 3 versions of the 6.8 liter V 10. The earliest version had 275 hp, the second version had 310 hp, and the latest version has 362 hp. There are more versions of this engine used in trucks and class C motorhomes but the 3 I mentioned are the only ones I know were used in the F53 (class A) chassis.
We have the 310 hp version in our motorhome. We average 7.5 mpg when towing our Jeep Wrangler. If we're lucky enogh to find gas without 10% ethanol the mileage goes up to 8.2 - 8.3 mpg. When not towing (which is really rare) we can expect the same mileage (using 10% ethanol) as when towing using the non ethanol gas. Again if we find non-ethanol gas the mileage will improve to 9.0 mpg.
It's funny but the easiest place to find non-ethanol gas is in the small towns in Iowa and Nebraska. Appaerntly the farm machinery doesn't like ethanol either.

Hopes this helps.
