Generator On/Off Power Light

My Onan 5500 generator does not have an on-off power light. Only a start button an hour meter. Has anyone wired a switch or a light to indicate that the generator is on/running? Sometimes when operating the motorhome and I forget to start up the generator it's tough to determine whether or not it's actually running.

I have the same switch, mine lights up when running. Although it is a bit hard to see during the day depending on how the sunlight shines in.

Plug a lamp ( night light ) into an outlet, that you can see.

It will be on when the generator is running.

I think mine also lights up, but is hard to see..

I have several of those small green color night light panels that we leave plugged in. I can look at any of those and immediately know if I have 110 volts.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

In the harness going to the switch there should be a lead that outputs 12 volts when the genset is running. You could add a light to the Status lead. In summary there are 4 conductors:

1 - Gnd
2 - Start
3 - Stop
4 - Status
