How to Remove Dash Pad for AC access

I need to remove my passenger side dash pad to figure out an AC problem. Anyone with some experience I would appreciate the advice before I tear into it.

I have a 2008 Bounder 35E. What is your AC problem? The padded portion I do not know. The storage compartment by the instrument cluster is held on with 6 or 8 screws. The carpeted panel in front of the passengers feet has 6 screws holding it on. Behind that panel is the blower motor and some ducting.

Red.......

The compressor frequently won't start, and always drops out sometime during the day. Could be 10 minutes or a few hours, spent more money than I would care to mention with the "Professionals".

I'm pretty sure I'll get the standard "run the Genny and house air" answers but I prefer the dash air to work.

Thanks for the reply.

The only thing under the dash panel is the ducting...can't see that affecting the compressor.

Does the compressor clutch get B+ and it then doesn't turn off?

If no B+, then look at the relay.

If relay is getting good signal (coil) to turn on and there is ground and the relay clicks, then look at the power to the relay.

This is an intermittent problem? I assume there is enough freon in the system...and that someone who does auto AC has had gauges on it to confirm there is freon?

When the AC shuts down the clutch is disengaged and it may stay that way for a couple of days. It has not ran a full day for over a year. Many $$ wasted, Denso system.

I don't understand the B+ comments above

I want to check all the wiring connections in the AC system.

Freon is at proper charge I have gauges, I also had it service checked last week to confirm. It just quits and won't come back on for a day or 2 or 3. Wondering also about a temp sensor or pressure gauge tripping and sticking.

Thanks for comments

B+ means look for Battery voltage (12 volts).

You (or your mechanic) will need to break the system down electrically to diagnose the issue (without throwing parts at it, which it sounds like has been done so far).

Since this happens and stays in that state for a while...it should be pretty easy to isolate where the problem is occuring.

Sounds to me that you just need to find a decent mechanic...this system isn't very complicated...

You really don't need to check "all of the components.". The compressor clutch wire is first (is it just not getting 12 volts?), If no voltage, the relay is next (is it not getting 12 volts at all, or is it not getting the 12 volt signal to turn on?), etc.

Very rarely do you need access to the wiring itself. Unless you have voltage on one end of a wire, and not on the other.

I had read somewhere that a temp sensor inside the evaporator housing will drop the compressor when too cold. Part of my thinking on getting the dash pad off was to find that switch and check it's function if it even exists in this system. This system really has not had parts thrown at, labor has killed me. The mechanics would tinker with it for hours get it running (and not know why) and then it would soon fail same as previously. I have seriously considered putting a switch on the compressor.

Another clue to what is going on. The earlier in the day that I try the system the better chance it will start (engage the clutch). However; it will eventually drop out. The system is correctly charged. It just seems a temp sensor or pressure device is wacked out.

2014 Southwind. A/C clutch fan fuse keeps comming loose on mine giving same symptoms. Open fuse box under hood and remove and reinsert clutch fuse (F2 I think). Start engine and make sure clutch on compressor is engaged.

Will check, probably change the fuse, thanks.
