Just bought a new 2011 Fleetwood Bounder 35H M/H. M/H is built on the Ford chassis. Noticed an unusual howling noise while crusing on backroads. Noise occurs between 38-45 MPH. Shifted into different gear and noise was still there so it seems to be vehicle speed related and not related to engine speed. Has anyone out there had a similar issue or have any ideas?

If it's what I think it is, hundreds of us have had the same problem.
Bounder front grills are the cause of harmonic resonance and should be filled with very fine sand by your dealer and closed on both sides with a wood dowel. This problem started in 2006 with the advent of a new front cap and grill design and I thought this was finally corrected in plant.
Yours must have not been filled.

i noticed the same thing on my 2011 35H. I was thinking it might be the holes in the aluminum rims; but now I'll check my grille too. Thanks.

This time of year it could be werewolves.
Seriously, if you have a tv antenna, make sure it is not vibrating up there. On my Southwind, that was my howling.

Tire noise is often most apparent at those speeds. If the MH is still "Brand New" it may still be the tires breaking-in, so to speak.

I'll favor the grill---mine did it as well, exactly the same speed and symptoms---that's why we call her Moan-a---the problem was solved by National with some rubber inserts between the "fins" on the grill.

Do you think filling the tubes with expanding foam would end the humm? Seems better than sand!

FW recommended sand and paid for it while I was still under warranty. I had plastic caps on the tube ends and siliconed them after the sand was put it. That was over two years ago. It works. Don't know about your foam idea nor have I heard of anyone else doing that.

As Cliff stated, sand is the way because of it's specific gravity causing a massive change in the tubing's ability to vibrate at speeds you would attain.
A word to the wise is "nuff."

I used 3/8 round doll rods then fill the ends with sealer.

I filled the tubes with silicon sealant and that stopped the howling on my 2011 35H. Also found that the electric shade will rattle if fully retracted....leave a bit of space and the rattle stops
