Hyd Levelling Jacks

Hope this is the right forum for this question.

We have a Fleetwood Bounder 1999 Ford which has four (4) levelling jacks which are hyd and spring return.

If these jacks for some reason not come up is there a way to do this. Is there a safety valve or something on the pump to unscrew ect.

If you are stuck and cannot get one to retract you can try using a 2x4 on edge or steel bar, 3-4 feet long under the shoe to pry upwards to "help" retract the jack. If that does not work there is a nut at the line end of each jack, right at the top. You can loosen that nut until fluid starts to come out and then you'll find the springs will bring the cylinder right up (IF the cylinder isnt badly rusted/damaged near the seal end)

Obviously if it's not retracting at that point something has failed.. either the cylinder is rusted and seized at the seal, a bad valve at the controls or pump or a line issue.

It sounds like you have a PowerGear system. If the 4 jacks will not retract via the "Retract all Jacks" button, it would either be a defective "dump valve", the 12v solenoid which operates it or a blown fuse for that solenoid.

Looking at the PG docs, I see no specific place on the unit to release the fluid/pressure from all 4 jacks at once, except perhaps removing the dump valve. Depending on where your system is located, and as previously stated, it may be much easier just to loosen the hyd lines at the jacks, allowing the springs to force the fluid out.

Thanks all But our jacks are not stuck. we were just asking if they did how would you retract them.
asking as a friend had a problem with his , but they were electric and to get them up was to loosen a hex bolt and power them up via a drill on the motor /pump.

It's pretty common for HWH jacks to fail to fully retract. On mine it's usually because the rams are a bit dry and dirty.

When mine don't fully retract... or are really slow to do so... I usually just reach under the coach and provide upward pressure with two fingers, and that usually gets them fully retracted fairly quickly. Don't expect them to slam back up into their stowed position right away though. They are naturally pretty slow to retract and require patience.

Good luck.

Rick

Send power gear an email and they will tell you what to do. They are fast with an answer.

It works, I sent them a e-mail one night last week with a few questions and had a answer by 8 AM the next morning. I will say in case you ever need parts, You cannot buy then direct from Powergear, you must get them from a dealer in their network, 1 to 3 weeks to get parts, and be sitting down when you get the price on anything, it's not just gold plated it's SOLID GOLD.
Oh wait a minute, Were talking about RV parts, everything is SOLID GOLD

Back to the topic, They were very helpful in diagnosing my problem and what to do to pinpoint the bad part so I could buy the right one the first time.
