We are looking at getting a new motorhome (2012) we have never had one before so this is just a general question that I know has tons of variables. Does anyone know a ball park figure on ins.? 30-33 ft. new mh. Presently we have a 09 5th that we pay $500 a year on.

My 2008 36 ft Bounder is about what your 5th wheel was, $550 year.

You've already mentioned there are so many variables that the cost is going to be widespread. I would guess, $500-2000/year.

Location is a big key. Metro vs urban vs country
Insured value. $50,000-200,00
Collision Deductible. $0-$2500
Comprehensive deductible
On and on

I suggest calling you current insurance provider and asking them.

We've just gone through this scenario to find insurance for our 2012 Discovery 36J. We ended up going with the Hartford/AARP. As mentioned, there's a lot of variables consonant with deductibles, locations, and other items.

Our quotes ranged from $700 (Hartford/AARP) to $3300. After reviewing all of the policies offered, we found that the AARP program provided virtually the same insurance coverage as the "specialized RV" policies.

It pays to shop around.

From my prospective, Hartford/AARP is a great insurance company backs up and pays all "non-fraud" claims.

Apparently your experience was different than ours from Hartford. Two claims last year. MH-$11,000 Home_$14,000

Easy, quick and more than fair for us. Of course thats only my experience and others certainly may be different.

It depends on value,location,your credit score, and what deductible you want,coverage like awnings and driving record. The best advise is to just shop around. MH policies are a lot different than campers.

If you're going to start shopping for rates, I would recommend Gilbert Rv Ins Agents. I've used them since 2001. My rates are competitive as far as I can tell. They specialize in RV Ins. 888-784-6787

That is a maxim to applied to ANY insurance company. We had one claim for $17,000 that the Hartford/AARP folks paid without question after a wind storm blew out the windows on the front of our home, and a second that paid for lightning damage to computers, HDTV, and amateur radio equipment, again without question. Prompt, fair, courteous.

The RV policy they issued covers awnings, towing (unlimited distance/cost), and all the systems, appliances and equipment on the coach. It covers trip interruption expenses, returning the coach to your home if you're not able, and all of the other features found in "specialized RV insurance company" policies.

Line-for-line, they compare to the "specialized RV insurance company" policies except for the cost of the policy.

Yes, I hope I never need it, but should I, I'm certain they will be there with a fair settlement.

Also, one of the big differences is what state in which you reside. Rates vary greatly.

You may want to start with these suggestions:
Progressive Ins for RV and Boats
AARP/Hartford for Auto and homeowner's Ins

My DW and I have no tickets, we are over 50, own a home, have recently taken the AARP driver safety course, and have multiple policies with each company. In other words, we receive all discounts.
