Insurance for repairs
WE have a 04 Fleetwood Bounder, weve had since 2010 new to us ,we done some repairs on it nothing really major, we actually just bought our first tag for it. we dont get to use it much during the winter months.last summer while out we notice the "engine" light would come on and go off, but now since it's getting warm and were going to be traveling soon hubby said we need to have that "engine" light ck, so he took in today for them to ck it out, well it's a good thing ,EGR cooler has gone out,so he has got to flush the cooling system out before you put the new one, change filter's air filter ect, a grand toltal of $4000, the man said this happen's when they sit up, like I said we bought it use. the man also told us we should buy some insurance for repairs. my question does anyone out there no of someone who carries this, geeze after we get this fix we probably will have like a new underneath engine then the dang tag today coast $1000, spent all kind of money today dont have anything in my hand for it except a little tag. any imfo will help, oh they will add oil ect back to moter home.

The "insurance" you're referring to is a service agreement or service contract. If you do a search on the forum you'll find hundreds of posts on the subject from both believers and non-believers.
BTW, is your Bounder a gasser or diesel?

With an 8 year old motorhome I think it's going to be hard to find a service contract (some people refer to them as extended warranties) for a reasonable price. If you do find one pay close attention to the fine print. Many of them require an inspection by an authorized agent and exclude "pre-existing conditions. Some also don't cover damage caused by bad seals or leaks. Still others may cover "initial damage" but don't cover consequential damage. An extreme example of "initial damage" could be a broken connecting rod or spun rod bearing. The non-covered "consequential damage" could be as drastic as having to replace the engine block beacuse the rod went through the side.
In all cases the companies require approval prior to begining any repairs. The approvals include an authorization number and complete list of the services that can be performed and parts that can be replaced. Any repairs outside those authorized (even though thy may be legitimate) are not covered.
You have to consider these companies are in the business to make money. That means they want to pay out far less than they collect in the form of premiums. There are several ways to do that. Either they don't pay out much, they have extremely high deductables, or they charge exhorbitant premiums.
I was in the repair business for many years and dealt with these companies on a regular basis. In rare cases their customers came away completely satisfied. In most cases however the individuals were expecting far more than the companies were willing to deliver.

I thought the a egr valve was for emissions control and has nothing to do with coolant. They also have a extended warranty from manufacturer. I hope they rebuilt your engine for $4000. Four hundred sounds more like it.

I purchased my extended repair coverage from Wholesalewarranties.net
I was happy with what they had to offer. We have had one claim, rather major, as the jacks failed, and the claim was handled promptly.

If you paid $2000. labor, did they wear a mask when they took your money?

I know on the Cummins Diesels the new "high output" diesels do not use DEF and they use recirculation and particulate filters instead.

Yes, Both Cat and Cummins used EGR plus particulate filters to met the last EPA specifications. Now each engine manufacturer has gone to the SCR emissions system using DEF fluids. Cat has dropped out of the highway engine market so this leaves us with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and Navistar MaxForce engines. Don't know what will happen with the next round of EPA requirements.
This is what happens when the Government catches you with your hands in the cookie jar, a little punishment is needed with stricter EPA requirements.

we got a quote from wholesale warranties for RV $3,397.oo for 3yrs unlimeted milage with paying 600 down ,we think this is to expense for a 3yr contract and it does cover bumber to bumber.
Rlawson- it might have been cheaper when you got it due to an extenion of your regular warranty ,we didnt have one in the beginning due to we didnt buy from a dealer.. so any info you have leme no.
