My buddies '07 Revolution dash air will only hold a charge for a couple weeks before it stops cooling again. While looking for the freon leak, he found alot of oil and oil residue behind his dash in the area of the evaporator assembly. Our question is, is the evaporator (accessed) removed from behind the dash (looks almost impossible) or can it be removed from the forward firewall? If you've seen the evaporator worked on, we'd sure like any info you can provide. Thanks!

There is oil in the AC system and what you are likely seeing with the oil residue is the manifestation of the leak. Oil is necessary to keep the AC compressor happy.

Agreed, the only a/c components in that area would be the evaporator and expansion valve. Getting to those parts looks very difficult from under the dash. Thanks for your info!

Best bet is to contact American Coach/Fleetwood at 1-800-322-8216. These folks are VERY helpful and should be able to answer your question easily.

BTW, our interior is probably similiar to your buddy's coach. 2 years ago, I had to repair a coolant hose/clamp leak at the heater core under the dash. Access was tough. As I recall, I had to remove the large horizontal dash panel, removing both post garnish mouldings first. Then I had to remove the large, curved plastic panel just right of the radio and HVAC controls. Not difficult, but time consuming. I also recall that, in order to remove the curved panel, I had to either "modify"/break a plastic attachment OR remove a whole bunch of other stuff. I chose the "modification". Following the heater repair, I drilled a hole on a flange lip of the curved panel and an adjacent panel lip, securing it with a small bolt which is now accessible from the removable cloth panel under the radio. The bolt is not visible at all, and I will not have to remove the dash panel if I have to get under there again....G-d forbid! BTW, on our coach, the curved panel was attached to an adjacent carpeted panel on the right with numerous staples. These are no problem really to detach or to resecure with a little "persuasion". If you have to get at the evap core from the inside, this is likely what will be involved.
