I was watching my brother change brake pads on his spartan Chassis
today, and he has what I think is called a budd lug
outer rear rims held on my lug nuts
remove wheel then there is a threaded lug that screws onto another
lug that when removed then the inter rim can be removed

My question is Discovery 2008 40X
I called freighliner today and was told noting like that on my chassis
told you take off 33MM outer log nut and then both rims
inter and out can ber removed without additional lugs, nuts
just 10 lugs on outer rim and you can remove both rims.

I have had a tire problem miles for a repair shop
and thought next time in an emergency I could actually remove
the rim and take it somewhere with my toad if needed
I now carry, Impact wrench capible of 750 LBs
air hydrulic jack and jack stands
plus the 33MM inpact socket.

as it turned out my last tire problem I had
the guy finally came and was albe to mount the tire
outside rear with out removing any rims
did it right on the coach with a hydrodrulic jack.

anybody had a close look at this lug nut inter and out rim removal
on a freightliner chassis?

Thanks
Ron K

Just had my rear tires changed - only one set of lug nuts on my Alcoa wheels. It's a Freightliner.

The confusion may be because there are several different axles available on the Freightliner XC chassis, depending on how the coach builder ordered the chassis. They ought to be able to tell you which you have if you give them your VIN.

Budd wheels were used on older trucks and some MH's. The had a large hole and the inner nut had a large shoulder that centered the wheel on the inner studs and had a l;ong shank with threads that the outer wheel went on and then the outer nut centered up that wheel. Almost everything now uses what is called a hub piloted wheel. They have small holes and are held on by one nut.
