Maintenance of a 2000 Fleetwood coach with a Ford V-10 chassis
Hello all,
I just purchased a 2000 Fleetwood RV with a Ford E-450 V-10 chassis and would like to instruct the body / chassis technician to ready this vehicle for the road: I need to do what is necessary to avoid any probs down the road. Can anyone here offer any advise the shop about preparing this rig for the open road, and avoid any problems?
Thanks a million!
Thank you

I see that you have a C class Tioga, congrats! I would take the RV to a commercial Ford truck dealer and let them go over it mechanically, change fluids, etc. Also check your tire date codes to make sure they are safe. Good luck and have fun.

Just do all the same things you would do in a car before a trip.
1. Oil/Filter change
2. Check fluid levels on brakes, trans, diff., batteries, power steering, etc.
3. Check air filter.
4. Check all rubber; tires, belts, & hoses.
5. Replace any old, dirty or unknown age.
6. Go have fun...

the #1 thing I started with was the brakes. Change the fluid and change all the rubber brake lines at the wheels and the one over the rear end.

Add to the list
Might be late, but check to make sure your ford dealer understands the correct procedure to remove spark plugs and replace them with correct ones at the right torque.

Spark Plugs
The spark plugs have been replaced by a local mechanic.
So far, the plugs have not been a problem.
How many miles before I will know for certain that these plugs will not blow-out?
Do you know anything about house batteries? The generator will not start on it's own as I must start the engine for the house battery to start....Yikes?
Thanks

Check the rear manifold bolts. They are known for going. Also dont shut the motor off when you first pull off the highway. Let the engine cool for a minute before shutting it off. My mechanic friend told me the v 10 are known for cracking manifolds because of this reason.

Sepinetine belt and tensioner - check and change as needed.
Brake fluid has probably never been flushed/changed - so have it done.
Transmission fluid change.

Change the serpentine belt and carry the old one as a spare.
If the tires are over 5 years old, replace them all.
Change engine and transmission fluids, generator oil, engine coolant, check brakes, ....
