My BIL has a Southwind that he is having some electrical issues with. I have a Winnebago product so I am turning to the Fleetwood experts for help as he isn't all that comfortable with a computer.

He has had a problem with consistent power to his refrigerator and his bathroom lights. I assume this to be the same circuit. An Rv mobil tech came out and ended up running a new jumper wire from the furnace to the back of the frig, and then the bath lights worked fine also. The tech said that for some reason there is no power at the power distribution center in the rear of the coach which doesn't make any sense to me as how is there power to the rest of the coach. Not being there, and not knowing his coach, it's hard saying not knowing.

In addition, when he turns on his aux power switch, his batteries show that they are not receiving a charge. When he turns the switch off, they now show a charge of 13+ volts. All of this sounds exactly opposite of my coach. Any help with this issue or wiring diagrams would be appreciated.

Just a couple of quick comments and then a suggestion for contacting Fleetwood Customer Service.

First - I'm not sure that you are discussing the same switch "aux power switch" on both coaches. The Southwind will have an "Aux Start" switch on the dash which is a momentary switch (must be held closed) that temporarily shorts the house and chassis batteries together to help start the engine in the event of a low battery. There is a switch (by the entry door) labeled Aux battery disconnect that would act just as you described. Disconnect ON = no charge, disconnect OFF = charge, assuming the coach is plugged to shore power.

Second - The refrigerator is fed from the 120vac panel via a circuit breaker while the bathroom lights are purely 12vdc and fed from the DC fuse panel. Two separate circuits.

However, the refrigerator does require 12vdc for the control board operation whether in AC or Propane operational mode, so there might be some correlation between the two problem, but I'm skeptical.

My suggestion is that you contact Fleetwood Customer Service via e-mail (go here) Contact Fleetwood RV

Provide your VIN and FIN numbers along with year, make and model info. They will e-mail you complete electrical/plumbing and heating diagrams for the Southwind, just for the asking.
