The shop said the house batteries are shot. Any suggestions on brand and model for a '05 Discovery. Currently has 4 Interstate 6V. Looking for a good price and longevity. Any ideas as where to buy in SE PA (Philly) area. If you've bought any lately the price you paid would help. Thanks Mike

The Interstate U2200's are OK but I like Trojan T105's better.

And if you want to avoid the need for maintenance (adding water, cleaning corroded terminals, etc.) consider a switch to AGM instead of flooded cells. The AGMs will cost 2x as much, though. I'd go with Lifeline or Trojan for an AGM battery

I agree with Gary on the T-105 Trojans. They are probably the gold standard of flooded cell batteries. Unfortunatly the cost reflects this standard. Shop around if you decide on them tho, as the price does vary. I just replaced the 2 Interstate 6V that came in our motorhome, they were over 5 years old, and the staying power was down quite a bit on them. I replaced them with a couple of Costco golf cart 6V. I only use the batteries for water pump, and TV mostly, so couldn't justify the higher price of the Trojans.

Prices have changed since we replaced our batteries two years ago with Trojan T-105's. IIRC we paid less than $100 each(somewhere around $90).

We use our batteries extensively boondocking and the water usage hasn't been a problem. I have to add H2O about every 2-3 months.

At the same time I built all new cables out of welding wire (cables) using IIRC.. #2 1/0 and 2/0. Use of the welding wire allowed a lot of flexibility and a cleaner installation.

price, longevity, and capacity are the three primary trade-offs issues with batteries.

Get good batteries from a reputable retailer who sells a lot to folks like you and who will stand behind what he sells. All the rest is noise to confuse things.

I am replacing 3 Group 31 12 volt batteries with 4 Trojan T 105, 6 volt. Initial quote was 112.00 but got down to 98.00 each for 4.

This may be a dumb question, but if my couch currently has 2 6v batteries can I put in 4 6v. I pick it up in 3 weeks (work and weather) and I wanted to have my new batteries on hand.

CarlaT, the only restriction to adding more batteries, if you need them, is a place to put them, and weight carrying capacity. I would recommend that all batteries in one bank be of the same age and size. Here are some links t help you with battery power:
