Ditto! Only had a problem once with the grey tank when it sucked the shower trap dry took a couple of minutes to figure out and no problems since.

Nothing here either, flush the black tank prior departure and refill with about 5 gallons of water and all the ice in the freezer before the return trip. No problems yet.

Richard & Sammie,

I've tried all sorts of tank treatments on the market and none seem to work better than formaldehyde based chemicals for reducing odors. Several well wishing folks from this forum also suggested I go chemical free, so I gave it a try for an entire season. Big mistake...might be ok for some folks, but didn't work for me. It just plain reeked when anyone opened the toilet valve or when I emptied the black water tank.

Some folks might not mind the odors, but I like to keep them in check. I don't care for the smell of formaldehyde and I try to use stuff that is more environmentally friendly these days, so I switched to Happy Camper toilet treatment about two years ago. Best decision I ever made. No chemical smells and no offending odors when I open the toilet valve or when I dump the tank.

Just my 2 cents...

Craig

Again....great information and experineces...I appreciate them all. We are going to try the "use nothing" route...and if we have any porobems, I'll try the Happy Camper.

We have our first trip out next weekend, really looking forward to it.

Well, after 2 trips out for 3 days each, we are going to use something. Tried using a lot of water, but still got a slight, but just slight odor back....when trap opened. So tried the formaldehyde free route with Simple Green. It did a good job so far....I like the baking soda idea...might try that....not so much for the cost, but I like that it's a natural product.

But OH!!! What fun!!!!! Counting the days to go full time. HA!!!
