Newbie oil change?
New to this. Just recently bought a 2001.5 Discovery 37U diesel pusher w/Cat 3126B motor. I am going to change the oil & filter...is it ok to fill the new oil through the oil dipstick hole?
It is near impossible to do it through the valve cover under the closest floor. How do others do it? I am thinking should be no problem. Just curious what others do😊.

Stupid me...I do have a oil fill extension on mine. Just went out and looked. Right there under the dipstick. Don't know why I didn't see it there before. Need another cup of coffee.

Just a heads up there are other filters you should also change. Your best friend in this process would be the coach maintenance schedule. There are also grease fittings you should hit.
This is a link to My first DIY oil change and all it talks about is the oil change.
I hope this helps

Be VERY CAREFULL when you change the fuel filters! Make sure you have a full tank of diesel and make sure your perfectly level.
I was able to swap out both filters w/o ANY issues. Rig started right up. Person with EXACT chassis/engine lost prime when he swapped filters and spent a day trying to get rig started. Ended up pressurizing the diesel tank so he could get diesel back to the fuel/water separator!
You will also find that MOST RV's (due to space) don't put a priming pump on the CAT. "IF" you decide to install one (not very expensive) you have to make SURE you have the space between the flange and the hatch cover.
My 2 micron filter change went w/o a hitch, I spun on the new filter dry and per the CAT instructions I removed a plug at the top of the filter housing and poured clean fresh diesel in (using wifes glass measuring cup <---you did not see this)
Started right up & never missed a beat!

When changing your fuel filters fill them to the top with transmission fluid, we do it on every diesel at work and never have a problem with starting.

I used diesel to fill the filter as per CAT document.

Might want to google CAT manual.
My Cummins manual states replace the water separator filter first (dry), turn key to the on then off position three times and then start start engine run for a moment. Then replace fuel filter (dry), turn key to on then off position 3 times and start engine run for a moment.
I replaced my filters twice in the past five years and it has always started.

Install filter dry, remove cap, fresh diesel to top, cap and start. Very easy, never misses a beat thanks.
