Oil choices
We have a 2005 Bounder, Ford F53 with a 6.8L V10 engine. It has right at 46K miles on it and runs very good.
Question we purchased it used and the previous owner always used Valvoline Full Synthetic 10w30 oil in it. Not sure why. My self growing up we only used straight 30W. Have changed that choice with the times as now most manuals say 5w20.
I speculate the Previous owner used 10/30 as the vehicle spent time between Florida and Indiana or just his preference, I have used the same garage for service he did and just followed his previous work orders. 10/30 full syn. I am now going to change the oil myself. When looking at owners manual to get filter info I see it says to use Ford 5W20 and a Ford filter. have researched the filter and if it is what it says, seems it would be a good filter.
Now the oil I want to go with 5W20 and use full synthetic. Do you think I would be safe going from 10W30 to 5W20, dont want to cause any future problems. I have always used Valvoline but like what I read about Mobile 1. Thinking of that change too. I have read you have to be careful changing brands as some have different additives like detergents and such. Your knowledge, thoughts and opinions on weight and brand would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jack
