has been running fine. tried to start it today it turns over but won't fire. sounds like my kubota when I haven't heated glow plugs enough. is there some way to heat glow plugs, thought they heated when you hold start switch. don't want to burn out starter, how long can you continue cranking without damaging starter? there is a switch by panel that controls everything, is that for generator, does it have to be in one position or the other when starting at dash? I have tried at dash and on the generator with same results.

My generator start seiches are two way rocker type. Pushing right side to start, left side to energize fuel pump and heater. If the generator is running the left side is pushed to shut it down.

I am not at the coach and doing this from memory, so check your generator manual to check on me.

Hope this is of help.

At least on the QD 7500, you should be able to just push (and hold) the start switch. The glow plugs will heat up if needed (may take a while if it's cold out) and then the engine should turn over and start. Pushing and holding the stop switch will run the fuel pump to prime, but doesn't do anything with the glow plugs.

Make sure you are over a quarter of a tank of fuel. Mine feeds fuel from the 1/4 tank level and higher. Anything below that and the gen won't start or run.

When I bought mine the PO said "it always takes a while to start" and kept cranking the genny 'till it started, like 4-5 times with the start switch.

By the time I got to CO it was ~30º and it wouldn't fire at all, a little investigation in the owner's manyal showed a 30A fuse for the glow plugs, opened the access panel and sure enough it was blown. Now it starts right up.

My coach has the single switch, push the top and the glow plugs go on, after a period of time the genny cranks, push bottom to shut off.

I hold my start button down it takes a few seconds and hardly turns over and cranks. If you are worried about burning out the starter you probably have other problems.

On Winnebagos it's typically the house battery.
