Opinion Needed '03 Discovery

I'm just about to finalize my purchase of a 2003 Fleetwood Discovery 39P. It has a Cat 3126E 330hp Turbo Diesel.

Has anybody owned/own one with this engine and have an opinion? What should I expect? Anything I should be wary of?

I'm getting the engine Dyno'd tomorrow as it has 100,000 miles on it, so I'll know what to expect for issues and how it was treated.

I'll want to tow my truck. Not worried about it being a speed demon, just want to make sure it's not a pooch.

We have the same setup in our 02' Discovery. We have plenty of power. Don't even notice the Jeep or boat behind us. We seem to get reasonable mileage as well....between 9-11 mpg.

I have a 2003 39C (with the fireplace), 3 slide outs, and the 330 Cat that I bought in December 2012. Mine had 32K miles on it when I bought it and have put about 6K vacation and weekend miles on her so far. I tow a 2013 Passat on an "ez" tow dolly and don't even know it's there except for the rearview camera. With the car, genny running, both ACs on, loaded, and doing about 70 mph on the hwy, I get a respectable 7.5 mpg. Love the engine brake for down hills and plenty of uphill power too.

I just received a call the other day from Norcold. My fridge has a recall issue that they will be coming to fix in my driveway next week. Works for me. I have no complaints or specific issues that I can warn you about, or any reasons to say stay away.

DW and I owned a 2003 Excursion, very very similar coaches with your 330 cat. Not 100K miles when purchased, the power (torque) while towing our Ford edge was no problem. Good coach!

Thanks All!

I go to finalize the deal Wednesday. The 330 Cat got a clean bill of health from the Cat Dealer after a full check out.

Congrats! Only concern I have had with my kitty Cat is how poor she runs cold. Once she has a chance to warm up the power and efficiency is great.

Just a tip Digpatch. Slide under the rear of your new coach, BTW congratulations, join Fleetwood owners forum, locate the "slobber" tube. Splice an extension to the existing tube, nipple, additional tube and tighten with S/T hose clamps, and re route it. Your toad and the back of the bus will stay much cleaner. See you on the road.

They didn't have a chance to fix all the small stuff or to clean it. My wife doesn't like things like that. It just gave her a bad opinion of the coach. She can't see past that. I look at the big picture and know I can deal with those things.
