Opinions and help
Well here goes I purchased my first ever Pace Arrow 1989 a few weeks ago, everything worked when we purchased it we had an hour and 20 min trip home. Well that's when all heck broke loose things stopped working a week later we took it in to have it checked out Bad news rodent infestation in convertor. Well insurance wont cover and don't have the money to fix at shop.. What should I do ???? PS it took me forever to save for this and just cant afford to repair at this time.

Coop... I have a high empathy for what you are experiencing and all that myself, as I buy older rigs and tinker with them. It is unbelievable what mice and infestation can do to an RV. You can buy used converters and often get high end charger inverters (way better than a converter) for decent pricing. What you will need to do for yourself is to make the calls to the RV junk yards or go on their websites. Plus wiring inspection now that you know the rodents destroyed a system ...was it just wiring or is it more? Some times it is merely removing the eaten wire section and replacing harness segments....other times system components are compromised and destroyed. PULL out all drawers and get on your hands and knees to look at the stuff in and around the furnace and frig.

well I can buy a convertor for cost as my son works at the place that makes them. I have it at the repair shop and he just said I have a big problem so not sure how bad it is he has someone who will give me a grand for it but I just 3 weeks ago paid 5600.00 for it So the only thing I can figure to do is try to repair it myself and I have no idea what to do They didn't say how bad it was all I know is that it wiring and now nothing works frig, furnace, and generator all not working frig doesn't get cold furnace blows air and ignition but no flame generator only works when switch is held down when we took it in all lights worked inside and out.... gosh this is just the pits for us we were so excited to go now we are just devastated and Broke

Coop.. BAD to a mechanic and what is reality might be feces, clean-up, and electrical replacement. The part that seems to be the hardest for you is ...your own talent is not at the level to meet the tasks. I have been there. I had to take a deep breath....bite off a project by learning, reading and then trying to do. One very good thing is...you have access to the Internet. You can look up and question many things before tackling them. I know my opinion is less than relaxing...but an RV is a machine...built by people...maintained by people...thus you being a person can rise up and work on this.

I am sure you see that under my 1996 34H is my 1995 30H Fleetwood Bounder RV PARTS vehicle.... it got that way when I struck a pole on a trip in the rain in Pittsburgh PA...500miles from home. I took my RV with NO Winshields....thru downtown Pittsburgh at 10PM.... to a LOWES and parked in their lot. I gathered my wits....and rebuilt my front end with plexiglass, 2x4's, deck screws and duct tape...then drove that bad boy home 500 miles. I was scared....my lovely wife was there to calm my crappy mood.... and in the end everything sailed out of the LOWES where Homestead PA police took very good care of me staying at LOWES for 3 days and the LOWES manager was awesome. I took the repair in little chunks....now I strip the RV for part to make my $6K jreplacement most functional. I do miss my 1995...it was beautiful....now i have a newer and longer RV and am working to make it as nice as the other.

Ok, I have built my own addition on my house did all the wiring myself and am willing to try this as the alternative is to lose a ton of money im positive this wont be easy as this will be something ive never attempted So you think the first thing is to get to the convertor area to see whats what as the rv place hasent given me a clue

I find it difficult to believe that everything worked when you bought it, and all of a sudden there is ddamage to the extent that nothing works and it's not economically repairable. I think your service guy is trying to pull a fast one or something.

I must completely agree with the opinions of the minions. Where there are mice and rodents there is messy poop. Vacuum and clean.... then look at the electrical closet....find all the obvious open wiring... you most likely will be getting the electrical features back on and running with just a few hours of labor ... I have been there did this and am still doing it. The other area that strangely attracts mice....is the heating ducting. It is a similar material to that of the stuff you use for drier ducting. The mice pull there bedding into the ducting and make nests there. Put your eye on that system too.... pull the drawers out from under the sink cabinet and refrig cabinets to view that area.

When the mechanic said he could "get you a grand for your rig" raised a red flag with me. It sounds fishy to me.
My '89 30ft _Pace Arrow was the nicest RV I have owned and was a learning experience as well. The converter failed and I dug it out from under the 'fridge and inside there was some sort of fuse that I repaired with a piece of light copper wire soldered in place of the "fuse".This is risky and would require careful monitoring of current draw especially in the presence of rodent damaged wiring. In my case the fuse just "got tired" as they occasionally do.It has been twelve years and memory is foggy, but I think I had to drill out rivets to get inside.
As others have said roll up your sleeves. You will need a Harbor Freight multi meter and learn as you go.This forum is a good place start. Good luck.

Again thank you all for the info im going to try to tackle this and hope that I can get enough info from here to get it done Im just not sure what they were up to ( oh ya the ol mighty dollar) so this is going to be my winter project or hopefully just fall. Im also thinking that maybe it isn't so bad as they are saying because everything inside works when plugged in to shore line so how bad can it be it seems to be just the outside stuff generator only works when switch is held down, Furnace comes on blowers work ignitor works but no heat not sure if flame as its all covered, and the fridge not sure its old.... I really need help in figuring it out as I don't have the money to just start buying parts and them not being whats wrong .... So any help on these things would be very grateful and who knows maybe a late fall trip could happen....... Thanks to all so far and thanks in advance to any more help I get PS maybe Im not going to take a big loss after all

Our 82 Pace Arrow is in great shape everything works and some things have never been used, Shower, oven, central vac.. We took the heater core/blower apart and there was a mouse nest in there, the biggest I have ever seen. Found the little tirds and vacuumed every where. No mice last year, had drier sheets all over the place. Had to replace two fuel filters, plugs and wires, air cleaner. We drove it for a year on short runs 500 - 600 milers to make sure it kept running. This winter we are taking her south, I am nervious but we are going to do it. I sure hope your luck changes.
Good Luck and keep us posted,
