Question Paddle lock on entrance door

Ok, here's the spec's, I have a 2001 Fleetwood Expedition, DP, 36T.

And the problem is, the entrance door. It takes two men and a boy to open this sucker This is from the outside trying to get in. You really have to yank on the paddle handle to open it, and I know it is adjustable to a certain extent, but I am not aware of how to do it.

From the inside going out it is not so difficult. However, I have read about people getting locked out of there coach and want to correct this before something like that happens to us

When I look at the lock from the side of the door, there is a small nut and a bolt which looks like it should be adjustable, but don't want to mess with it until I understand it.

Happy Trails
Jim

In all likely hood it is a Fastec lock Home and if you dig down far enough there are engineering drawings that will help you understand what is inside one of these. They are not particularly difficult to lubricate and I would try a liberal dose of silicone first, any product containing petroleum tends to attract dirt and clog up. Part of the adjustment may be the striker plate, is it binding?

Thanks Shadow, but it wasn't any of those, when I get back to the house I'll post a picture of it.

I have an older Trimark, but the mechanics should be the same. Assuming the latch operation moves freely with the door open, then it must be the adjustment.

My latch has two bolts which just screw into the latch. These are used to make sure the door is aligned vertically when they enter the striker on the door jam. They also keep the door in place so it doesn't move up or down.

If your bolt has loosened and backed out a bit, the end of the bolt will hit the striker. Which may not be noticeable shutting it, but opening it would be harder. You can examine the bolt end and striker to see if this is happening and just adjust the bolt in 1/16 - 1/8 inch.

Failing that, there is slight adjustment on the latch by loosening the interier bolts. The only in and out adjustments are on the door jam plates, but not much on mine.

If you adjust the striker and it is still hard to operate, Take off the inside lock cover and spray the moving parts with lithium spray grease. This usually cures the problem.
