Some notes on how to repair a Power Seat on a RV. I found none on IRV2 to fix my problem.
Most of the time when the Power Seat fail, it is due to a pinch on a wire under the seat or a blown fuse. This is easy to repair.
In my case the Power Seat controls were working except for the directions going forward or backward.
STEPS TO FIX A MOTOR PROBLEM
Tools required: Voltmeter, 1/2" key, Star Screwdriver.
Time required: 1 hour.
1 - First I check to see if a wire was pinch. But everything looked ok.
2 - Then I removed the Control buttons two screws with a screwdriver. On the back we see 8 wires that connect to the board. They are easy to test. There are two wires for the power and ground that goes in the middle of the board. Then there are three pairs of wires for each of the three motors. What is fantastic is that each pair is a different color for each motor. Very easy!
3 - Testing of the Control buttons: the problem is either a button or a motor. So the first step was to check if the button was working ok. If you look at each motor, you will see witch pair of color wires goes to each of them. It is then easy to test, simply put a voltmeter on the control board at a pair of motor wire and when you press the button you should read +12V in a direction and -12V on the other direction of the button. If you see no voltage then repair or change the control board.
4 - Testing of the motors: If you have voltage going to the motor that is not working, then you know you probably have a motor problem. To get access to the motors, do not remove the seat base. Simply remove the four 1/2" nuts that hold the leather seat to the power seat metal frame. I used a 1/2" key which was more easier than with a ratchet. You can then put the seat on the side and work on the motors. Remove the broken motor with a screw driver (star screwdriver). Once it is removed, try to push the button to see if it is working to determine if the problem was the motor or the seat assembly that is stuck. In my case, the motor cover had one of the three retainer that was not in place. So in my hand the motor driveshaft was moving side to side. I simply push the retainer as it should and the motor became very stable. I tested it and it was working like new. If you motor is not working, bring it to a "Electrical engine shop" that can be found in almost any city of 50000 people and more.
5 - I realised that there is a lot of grease on my 17 years old power seat. My feeling is that there is no need to add grease anywhere on the power seat for the first 264 years of utilisation.
If you need to change the Button Controls, I don't know the part number. But some people have installed the
Item #053001: Power Seat Switch Black 8 Pin Connection 5 1/2" Long x 1 7/8" Wide Used In Most Aftermarket Power Seat Units for 50$U. Another suggest installing KustomFit (part # 19332). You can also go in a scrap yard. Also on eBay look for: 8 pin power seat, there are tons of them at about 30$.
Hope this help the next RVist.
