We are looking at the 2008 Pace Arrow, Southwind and Bounder. Would like to know, what would the average per cent off the list price could we hope to get on these coaches? Also we are in Canada and with the dollar close to par, is it unresonable for us to expect for prices be close to coaches being offer in the USA? Any information and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sandra, the price that you can negotiate with a Canadian dealer is going to be based on the price they paid for the unit, and not necessarily on the current dollar exchange. If the dealer bought the unit with 110 cent dollars then he can find more room to discount. The retail prices appear to have become much more similar, but getting a 25% discount is probably optimistic. Many Canadians do quite well importing from the States but most of us settle for an at home price and better at home service. We traded our Discovery for a Revolution that the dealer bought with 85 cent dollar but he was more generous with our trade. Dealers are hungry so see what you can negotiate.

High volume dealers may discount 25% or more, but smaller ones seldom go that far. Just about all of them will give 10-15% off the MSRP. Canadian dealers may operate on different margins, though, so ask around locally.

Many Canadians buy at a deep discounting US dealer and import the vehicle. Apparently it is not a big problem, though there is some paper work and inspections involved.

I'm adding a shortcut to this inquiry down in the Canada Regional Forum - somebody there may be able to give more specific advice on Canadian dealers. This question is not at all unique to Fleetwood products.

Thanks for the link Gary. This is a very true statement, one which many Canadians, as well as Canadian RV Dealerships have capitalized on. A personal purchase in the US may be the way to go if Canadian dealers will not do a reasonable deal. The process is realatively painless, and requires a few specific steps to save many thousands of dollars over dealer prices. If you find the Import process intimidating, I hope you can find a reputable dealer willing to treat you fairly. If you can't make a deal in Canada with close to US prices, I would and have exported a vehicle into Canada with HUGE savings. Maybe something to look into.

Sandra

We purchased in Toronto, Ontario June 2007. Our Bounder MSRP price was $185,000 Canadian and the US Price was $148,000. We got between 22 & 25% off the MSRP for our unit. So we felt that we did well as the dealer has been nothing but fabulous for anything and everything. We would recomend them to anyone, Toronto Camping Centre.

Good Deal Peeta. I have been doing a lot of "tire kicking" in TX, and your price seems to be in around the same money as what I've seen here. If the dealer is there for ya, well that makes for a super deal...

Sandra,
There are deals out there for individuals who do their shopping and do not limit their options. We ended up ordering our unit to our specs and still ended up with a little more than 25% off MSRP. We visited many dealers, attended several shows and made numerous phone calls during the 3-month adventure. Take your time...the right deal and motor home will come along soon.

Last year I too didn't have a clue about pricing. A salesman in Vegas told us to join CostCo and he'd give us the "CostCo Price" which would be the lowest price possible. Okay, I paid $50 to join and he gave me a 20% off quote. Not impressive. I told him I'd expected more like 25% off. He said he could do 25% on a more expensive unit, but on a Fiesta LX at $111k, 20% was it. I thanked him and kept surfing for better pricing. This was right before Christmas 07. A week later that same salesman called me and offered me 25% off. I was not able to buy at that time as my older unit hadn't been sold yet. When I did sell my old MH I got really serious and it looked like we'd settle on the Georgetown which was like $10k less. I called my Vegas salesman to tell him he could quit calling me as we had a deal on another coach. Well, it seems this motivated him and he tried to do better. He came back with about 30% discount deal. No BS. (I should say that the unit had been on their lot for over 6 months. No idea why.) We now have the coach and I don't think I could have gotten a better deal. I pressed for a full tank and didn't get it. We paid under $80k for the brand new 08 Fiesta LX 34N, well equipped. I couldn't find a used one any cheaper.
Serious discounting began when I found www.RVDirect.com on line. They give a flat quote right on line, right when you request it. Trouble is, they don't sell Fleetwood and are on the right coast. Still good ammo for the fight. Believe me, the dealers are not going to discount any more than they absolutely have to.

After 2 5th-Wheels, 1 Clas C, and 2 Class A's I find that 25% is obtainable - but never more (I tried for more without getting replies).
