RV Consumers group says this about most Discoveries. " tend to wander and cause some driver fatique in windy conditions, when trucks are passing, or when the road is wet." Do you Discovery owners ever experience this?
Also they rate the Discovery for "snowbirding" and not full time. Is this accurate?
We are in the looking stage and any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mike and Nancy

we have an 02 discovery and it seems to do pretty well rolling down the highway, sometimes when a large semi goes by you do feel some sway,we notice it more when it is windy. but i have had a truck and trailer combo before and it is about the same, as well as i have also driven other coaches and get about the same experience.

We have had some wandering/roll but not as bad in other MH's we've owned. We have 3 slides and feel quite spacious and comfortable. We've had ours for about 4years now, very comfortable, very dependable, some bugs, but who hasn't.

RVCG does not test RV's.

They base their opinions on info they gather and then formulate their ratings.

There a countless RV owners quite happy with their RVs that RVCG has rated poorly.

RVCG is just one opinion of many.

I've put 15K miles on mine and I think most handling issues are due to driver over correction. Mine handles well. JMO

We got a 2002 37T about 4 years ago, and have been very happy. That vintage is equipped with the Cat 3126, and Allison MH3000, a drive train very suitable to this size coach.
It had 16,000 miles when we bought it, 45,000 now.
It has a GVW of around 26,000, and a curb weight of about 21,000. A single air bag at each corner, and 242" wheelbase.
I have driven it in about every possible type of weather and road condition, and it has performed very well. I have not had any excessive wandering issues. Rember that a Freightliner chassis of this configuration could any one of several different models of coach built on it, and its drive-quality would be affected by a variation in weight or height, or placement of load.
I feel that any tall, heavy, slab-sided vehicle will get a bit of movement in severe crosswinds, and the Discovery is no different.
Overall, I'm very happy with my Discovery.
Dan

I was interested in an 07 or later Discovery 40X floorplan. We like the layout of the floorplan. Any points that you folks bring would be helpful. Thanks for any feedback.

I have a providence.. pretty much the same thing with a few more bells and whistles and I live in Texas... land of the perpetual wind... It can be pretty fatiguing at times but what big slab sided rig wouldn't be? I wonder sometimes if a "tag axle" would make a difference but other than that I'm very happy with mine.

Yes Mike There is a bit of wind effect but our Discovery is well worth it. You can buy a steering damper that relieves this effect alot. The only times I have had any worries was while driving alongside concrete barriers and being passed by big trucks. We love our Discovery, it is solidly and well built. It has held up to us and our two young children and lots of trips to the beach and the Texas Hill Country. It has a few elect bugs and some wind noise but spare fuses and extra insulation in the front will cover this. Ours is not a new one so it is built lighter and has a smaller hp rating on the 5.9 Cummins but we get 12 mpg or better and will still get up and go. It has plenty of room with 38' and 2 slides. If I had to buy another coach I would buy another Discovery.
Hope this answers Your question.

Mike, I drive an 07 Discovery 39S and as mentioned in other posting something this big is going to react to cross winds. The wife and I enjoy our rig and always look forward to our next trip. I hope you pick yours up soon and go out and enjoy it. Be safe out there.

We have the 40X in the Providence model and I just drove up Hwy 1 from Southern Cal. to Monterey Ca. with 20-25mph cross winds and I was surprised how well it handled.

Just putting my 2 cents in probably where it hasn't been requested, I drove a whole bunch of RV's during our search and here is what I found. I drove Holiday Rambler RR8R and RR4R Chassis's, Safari with a Magnum Chassis, A Discovery with a Freightliner Chassis, A American Tradition with a Freightliner Chassis and an Alpine with a Peak Chassis.

Here is how I liked the drive of them:
The Alpine Peak Chassis was the best most solid driving chassis and was very easy to drive.
The Holiday Rambler RR8R Chassis with Koni FSD's drove the next best.
The Safari with the Magnum Chassis was next with a decent ride
The American Tradition was next.
The Discovery was last and was the worst, hard to hold a lane on the freeway. Did not care for the way it drove at all.

I drove all of these on the freeway and in town. The Alpine and Holiday Rambler RR8R drove so nice and even at 40ft they were an ease to drive. Even on the freeway hardly had to move the wheel at all. The Koni's really made a huge difference as well I drove one with and one without.
