Rear Air Conditioner Noise

I have a noise from the rear ducts that occurs when the fan starts. When on automatic the fan starts a few seconds before the compressor and the noise seems to be emulating from about mid-point between the kitchen and bedroom in the bathroom.

It's kind of a rattly sound, similar to light rain on the roof. I want to remove a couple of the round ceiling ducts to try to spot something but don't have a clue how they come out. Any guidance would be appreciated, Bounder 38P.

The duct covers have a plastic ring that snaps off, they are pretty tough. Don't worry about breaking them. I have always used my iPhone camera to take a picture of the inside of the duct work. Make sure to turn the flash on. Put the camera up in the duct work and take a pic. Don't be surprised at the lack of craftsmanship of a Fleetwood product. They just throw these things together.

Good idea on the camera, hopefully I would have thought of it eventually. In regards to the vent, your saying the whole assembly will just pop out? It looks like the "can" and flange are one piece.

Thanx, Brock

Sorry, after you remove the plastic ring there are four screws to remove. Then you can access the ductwork.

It sounds like what you have experienced, just hope the diffusers come out in one chunk versus an ahhh crap moment.

Bingo!!

Went to the coach today and started pulling the vents down from the last row in the bedroom. Found that both rows were actually separate chases. When I would get both out I took a picture in each in both directions then stuffed the duct with newspaper to see if the noise changed. Long story short, when I pulled the last set of 2 (6 sets on rear air) I got this picture below with a white spot, stuffed that run with paper and the noise stopped.

Next I pulled the AC grille and found the duct to be down from the top of the outlet about 1 inch, that was the white spot in the picture, raw styrofoam. I was able to push it up (right side in picture). Tomorrow I will go back over to storage and do a good tape job on both transitions from AC unit to ducts. A lot of cool air was going somewhere other than down the ducts.

Thanks for the help and tips, DW thinks I have some pretty smart invisible friends.

Went to the coach this AM to seal the gaps and check the front AC for same potential problem. I had some metallic HVAC tape and was able to do a credible repair on the rear.

The front AC did not have the severe problem found in the rear. However; there were significant gaps allowing air to go places other than down the duct chases. All good now probably a good thing for Bounder and Southwind owners to take a peek at.
