I have a 2006 39S Fleetwood Discovery and just recently noticed that the passenger side bedroom window is fogging up. I'm assuming the seal for the window is shot.

Has anyone had this problem before? I've been told that the window is out of warranty.

Any thoughts as to what to do at this point?

Your assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Both bedroom windows and drivers fixed front window. The drivers is the worst. They seem to vary due to humidity and temperature.

Mike,

Did you have the windows repaired? I left the roof top fans on today and the problem seems to be going away slightly. It seems to happen when there is high humidity and the coach is not being used and it is closed up.

I did call Fleetwood parts today and the replacement window cost $398 plus labor costs to install.

Thanks for any info you can provide me.

Mike

You should first call Jodie at Fleetwood (260) 724-5765 and ask her to look up the part number for your window. You do not need the whole window, only the section that is fogged. You will need the VIN number and the year of your MH.
If your window is made by Atwood, and most of them that Fleetwood uses are, you call Sue Phillips at Atwood (574) 266-4829 and order the new part.
They are not hard to change. I am 65 and not in the best of shape but I changed the stationary part of the driver's front window on mine.

Jerry,

I did speak to Jodi at Fleetwood and she was very helpful. Jodi put me in touch with Fleetwood parts and they gave me the part number for the entire replacment window(#409710) and the name of the window manufacture which is SE-GI out of California.

Fleetwood said I could replace the glass but suggested replacing the entire window. If I was to replace the glass only, how would I know which pane to replace, interior or exterior as they are double pane insulated windows?

Did you have to remove the entire window to replace the window pane?

Thanks for you advice.

Mike

The two panes of a double pane window come as a sealed unit. The reason your is fogged is that the seal has broken and let moist air in between. It will disappear after a few days in a warm dry climate and re-appear next time it is cool or damp.

This is a common problem in Rvs - the windows are made to withstand the twist & shake of moving down the road and the seal gives out. There are probably better quality double pane windows available too, but the cost likely deters their use.

They can be repaired. The only problem is - not that many glass shops do it. I had a few on my Allegro Bus fog up and the dealer pulled them out and had a local glass guy reseal them and refill them with argon gas. They've worked great ever since. That was in Wausau, WI at Kings Campers. However, none of my local glass installers do any of that work. If you hunt around you may be able to get them resealed and save some money.

Mike,

I had the same issue with my driver's window. I contacted my local FW dealer and asked them for help. They contacted a FW factory rep., who in turn contacted Se-Gi, and got them to replace the window for me under warranty, even though the warranty had expired. They wouldn't cover the cost of labor, only the window itself. I installed the window myself, so the whole ordeal only cost me a couple of trips to the dealer and a day's worth of labor.

You might want to try the same approach with your FW dealer.

Craig,

Thanks for the info.

How difficult was it to remove and reinstall the window?

Mike

Yes I did and it was not hard to do at all. The folks at Fleetwood gave me excellent instructions and were willing to walk me through it, step by step. It came out and went back, in just a couple of hours. Not bad for the first try!

Mike,

It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. The hardest part for me was finishing the outside edges of the window frame with silicone, so that it didn't look like a 2 year old did the work. Also, even though FW told me to use silicone, I've found out since then from other forum members that 100% silicone is not the best sealant to use.

You can read my thread on the window replacement here. Hope this helps...

Craig

Craig,

Great thread on the window replacement. That will be very helpful to me. You mentioned about the need to drill holes, what's the chances that my window will be pre-drilled? Guess I can ask Fleetwood that. Also, the black tape and the insulating rubber tape you refer to, can it be purchased through Fleetwood or will it come with my new window?

I've spoken to both Fleetwood and Se-Gi and it doesn't sound like they are willing to help me out since my coach is out of warranty. I purchased it on 3/31/06. I'm going to try to push them (Fleetwood) again tomorrow.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Mike
