Rear Ladder 98 american dream

Can anyone tell me how to use this ladder. I can't figure how the lower part attaches to the mounted upper.

On my AE the bottom part hooks onto the top part and then there are feet that rest against the MH. Lloks like you have it upside down.

I don't think it's upside down, those two protrusions on the bottom appear to be the bumpers that would keep it off of the rear bumper. It does appear that you are missing the two L shaped hooks that should be on the top rung to enable it to hook over the part of the ladder that is attached to the motorhome.

Which 2 protrusions are you talking about? All I see really is a piece on the ground that I cant make out the end thats on the ground very good and then there are 2 pictures of the piece that is attached to the MH .

If you look closely at the first picture at the bottom rung of the ladder you will see facing back towards the MH two stobs, protrusions, whatever with what appear to rubber bumpers on them. They look familiar to me because I have them on my ladder extension. Now I will agree with you that I don't think that is the correct ladder for the unit, mine is straight with the "hooks"attached to the top runners.OTE]

To the OP, you do not have the correct ladder extension. Here is the only picture that I could find of the correct ladder extension.

What you cannot see in the picture is the C shaped top of the ladder extension as they are in the holes on the driver's side of the coach for storage and travel in the photo.

The -C- shaped tops slide onto the lowest rung of the ladder mounted to the coach when you hold the ladder extension at a 90 degree angle to the lowest rung.

Then you swing the extension down, rubber mounts are against your bumper and you can easily start the climb up to the roof. American Coach should be able to sell you or tell you where you can purchase the correct ladder extension.

Hope this helps!

I have the same coach as Former Boater. My ladder is a little different in shape but functions the same. Mine is different because when I bought the coach the extension was missing so a new one was provided by LazyDays. The salesman told me that missing ladder extensions were extremely common on used coaches. It someone replaced yours with the incorrect one. Maybe you could check with one of the RV salvage companies for the correct one as my experience with replacement OEM parts from Fleetwood is that they are not cheap!

Well there you go, have a 1998 American Dream for three years now and did not know it originally came with a attach bottom ladder! Been carrying a small step ladder to do the job.
