I think this is an exhaust brake switch from what I have read. I don't know when it is on or off. Do I press bottom or top to turn it off? I bought the 1999 discovery manual, what a waste of money. Everything I have needed help with I have got from this web site. Thanks To All you members with experience.

I believe that is the Retarder switch. Mine is a rocker switch. When the top is down the Retarder is on, and when the bottom is down the retarder is off.

When I read the subject I read it as "Retarder Switch".

There are a couple of retard systems.. Which you have I do not know.

I believe there is an indicator light on the dash that will indicate the retarder break is on. It will only light when the engine is running. You will know when it is activated because it will engage when you take your foot off the accelerator while driving.

Mine is on a rocker switch, too. Up is high, down is low, middle is off.

Should be easy enough to figure out when its on. Get out on the highway, say 55 mph, then take your foot off the accelerator. If the coach continues to coast easily with no drag, flip the switch and see if you feel braking. It may take several seconds but it should be readily detectable.
