Slide topper

How hard is it to remove slide topper? Are they spring loaded? Gotta a leak.
Thanks

Yes, spring loaded just like an awning. Remove/replace instructions are available online for both A&E and Carefree toppers.

Why worry about a leak? The topper isn't there to keep water out anyway - it's just a debris catcher. Water gets under it in most any rain storm.

Not hard to change. However....and isn't there ALWAYS a however in life...replacing the slide topper will not necessarily stop the leak. The topper keeps some water off the slide roof but not all. The topper purpose is to keep leaves and other stuff from getting on the roof and interfering with slide action.

Once you have the topper off you can seal the slide roof seams with a spray on sealer like Flex Seal. That fixed mine!

This is definitely a TWO PERSON JOB. I helped a friend replace three slide toppers on her 2003 Discovery. A WORD OF CAUTION HERE: the tension in the springs in the rollers is very stiff and can cause severe bodily arm if not carefully held in place when unwinding the rollers. I would suggest that you review several You Tube videos to get different views on how to R&R the topper. Good luck and PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

Slide Topper

Thanks all. The problem is not the topper but the slide roof. The topper is just in the way. There is a nice clean spot on the seal but it is in the middle of the slide. Thats why I think that may be the problem. Also notice the caulk is dirty or missing in some spots or could just be dirt/crud caint see that far in and arms are not long enough to reach. The water sets on the slide but some is starting to get inside which gives me a shower at times and it has started to run in the front wall behind driver seat leaving a wet spot floor. Wouldn't be to bad but DW makes me take off my shoes before entering. Wet socks plus really not good for the floor.

Just Google 'remove slide topper' and pick the video or pdf instructions that matches your brand of topper. YouTube has several videos.

Slide topper end caps have a hole where when lined up can be pinned so that the spring won't unwind......I've opened my slide most of the way open, then pinned, and removed the arms and layed the whole thing up on the roof while replacing wiper seals......

I think Tough Top Awnings has some videos that will help.
