Thank you for posting that incredible write up. It sure makes sense to me for those models affected and it clearly explains why you cannot just install a larger motor.

Hey Bob,
Great write-up!

There should be, at least a 3yr/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, as there is on the lesser of standard auto warranties.
Some of the items comprising a RV just don't last very long but should.
Power Gear electric jacks and slide assemblies, some a/c exterior hoods,
deteriorating porch light lenses, some See Gee double pane window fog up at the seals. These are but a few of the poorer designed in materials or construction. I don't have to travel down the road with brakes that have been proven to be of defective design or refrigerators that can catch fire
but thanks to the NTSB we don't have these problems any more.
Most companies take the time to ensure their products are of high quality.

Thanks for the information Bob. If I start having slide stall again I will try your fix.

The General and Hipshot!

I can't take credit for the salon slide modification. It was penned by someone else some time ago and I found it by accident. Just passing it along as it addresses the issue of problem slides.
I purchased the bearings and fabbed all the spacers and bushings described in the article and when time permits I'll do the install.
One other measure which will reduce friction on cog rails and gears is the application of paraffin wax to those parts. It's a super lubricant which is water proof and doesn't attract dust and dirt.

The living room slide on my '05 Bounder started struggling and getting slow, occasionally stopping. The dealer said he would be glad to replace the motor. I went to an independent RV technician that i trust. He replaced the relay and it now works perfectly. He said he has seen a number of those relays going bad over a period of time....like they are slowly getting worse and worse. Anyway, it fixed my problem. If its just one slide you are having issues with, you may want to switch the relays to see what happens.
