started with key but won't turn off
Triton V10 started with key but won't turn off
2002 fleetwood bounder with triton v10 started it today and wouldn't shut off with key had to pull wires on altenator. Turn key off pull key out heater shut off but dash stayed on as did the engine

Off the alternator ?
Maybe you mean off the battery or starter ?

yes only way to shut it down was to pull plug from alternator. key wouldn't shut it off

pulled cables off battery still ran so at that point running off alternator so had to unhook it

I recall blowing the diodes on an alternator by disconnect the battery on a running late 60's Chevy. Does that problem still exist or have they fixed it?
I'd probably pull the fuse for the computer.

I think you have a bad ignition switch. I would try lubricating the switch, wd40 or graphite.

thats kinda of what I was thinking but when you look online I see things like crossed wires and an actuator arm so wanted to get some opinions before buying switch....

Agree, bad switch or sticking ignition relay if it has one.

Yes you can still blow diodes but usually not at idle speed. Not that much output.

good question about relay its been cold as heck here in michigan so have been starting at least every other week it started perfect when i turned key off the fan blower for heat went off but dang engine didnt

Had that problem with a GMC Acadia. It was a bad computer module, the "BCM" in that product. You could also have a bad relay. The ignition key Off position just removes power that engages a relay to provide 12v to all the pales that need it. If that relay stuck on, or there is a short to the trigger circuit, power stays on and the engine keeps running.

so does anyone know where that relay may be located? and or what to check so I dont buy a bunch of parts not needed, oh also the PCM is fairly new about 1.5 yrs ago.

So its been cold here and today is supposed to be like 42 so thought I would try the WD-40 in the switch. I tried to start it the other day and same issue wont shut down when turning off the key even the dash stays on now.....
