Starter Issue??

Hi gang.... 2006 Fleetwood Revolution C9 Cat Diesel / Spartan chassis

Issue: Once in a while I turn the key to start and nothing......I keep clicking it to the right a few times and she finally catches and starts. ( Reminds me of a Chevy starter that has a flat spot or bad connection issue.)

All connections look good. Should I pull the starter and send her out to be rebuilt or has someone had a similar issue that may have suggestions?

TIA

Glen

There is a slave solenoid, that is controlled by the key, that sends power to the starter solenoid.

They bury them back between the starter and batteries. That would be the first suspect in your problem.

Of course that's right after every battery cable has been removed, cleaned, and replaced.

When you are having the issue and turning to start can you hear the sloenoids clicking, the starter ? The solenoids will usually have a higher pitch to them when they click.

Chasing an intermittent is always a headache.

I'm having this issue on my 2005 Pace Arrow 36D.
Coach is plugged in, battery shows 13.2v

You know how when you have a low/dead battery you'll hear the starter solenoid click rapidly?
This isn't that.
I get a single click, and nothing.

Any idea where this "magnetic switch" is located? Sounds like that could be something to check...

One click could be a bad battery connection.

Do you watch the volts while you turn the key to start. If they drop to 0, its a connection issue.

If the volts stay high, it could be a solenoid.

Try starting it with with the headlights on. They will go out if a bad connection.

If they stay bright or dim slightly, its more likely not a connection issue.
