After a day long trip to the winshield shop, and with my wallet $300 lighter I was disappointed to learn that my windshield still leaks. The shop refused to guarantee their work.

The windshield is glued in and the shop merely shot a bunch of glue around the top and stuffed the black plastic trim back in. They 'said' they tested it but the first time there was any moisture it came down the inside of the glass.

What's the old addage: If you want something done right, do it yourself?

So here's my question, there has to be a question doesn't there?

How do I remove the black plastic trim to get at the actual sealing surfaces of the winsdhield?

Thanks,
Muddypaws

Do you mean the black rubber moulding?

If the moulding is "glued" you will need to remove it by cutting with a sharp knife. If it has not been glued, simply find the end and start pulling. I would suggest ordering a replacement trim piece from Fleetwood.

I have had good luck with sticking a putty knife under the rubber and prying it out while shooting sealant under the rubber seal. ( It is best done with a helper)

I had some small leaks dripping down the inside of our Bounder's windshield. When we looked carefully around the fiberglass cap, we noticed there were hairline cracks in the fiberglass at the top of the windshield. The windshield itself wasn't leaking, but the water was coming in above it. We wound up putting a black rubber coating extending about 1/2" around the top edge of the seal, and that fixed it.

I looked for cracks of any kind on the front cap and found nothing.

We were out this weekend and every morning we found new streaks on the driver side windsheild whenever the coastal fog came in. It was not condensation. I tested the seal with a hose and found several leaks.

I found a windsheild sealant that is supposed to be thin enough to run into the leaking areas. Hope it works.

Took the bounder to yet another RV shop today. They are going to remove and re-glue both sides of the windshield.

Their estimate is $700, if the windshield halves come out without breaking and if there isn't rust on the metal parts of the frame.

I first would look at the clearance lights on the front cap I have worked on many customer coaches that swear the windshield was leaking and found that the water was coming from the lights.for the rubber gasket on the windshield one it comes off you cannot put it back on I have installed hundreds of them I'm a ex fleetwood employee worked for service center in SO cal for 25 years

Well, in the end I'm into the windshield over a thousand but it leaks no more. Both halves had to be completely removed and reinstalled. I was lucky in that the metal frame had not rusted out. Hopefully this is the last of it.

The part that really tweaks me is that the Bozos who sold it to us HAD to know about the leaks because they HAD to have been cleaning the inside of the window every time it rained. It rained plenty here this year.

Are all RV dealerships scumbags? Are there any good ones in Northern California?
