Surge flipping

2017 35k. I had it parked in storage for a long time. Been busy moving houses. So I go to storage and flip on the dealers switches. No house lights came on. The engine fired right up and after a couple seconds the inverter took over and house stuff worked. I drive it to my new house that has rv parking and plug it in. Dummy me installed the 50 amp recp upside down. But I flip the breaker and all was good. Full power in the house. This morning I flipped the 50 amp recp 180 degrees to the correct orientation. Checked it all with the wiggy and all was okay. So I plug in and flip the breaker and after 2-3 seconds I can hear the surge box flip. No power.

Any thoughts or ideas? Worked yesterday and not today.
Trust me when I say the wiring is correct.

BTW. The shore power is not tripping, just something I can hear 2-3 seconds after turning on the shore power.
I get a loud click from the TRC surge control/transfer switch. But the odd thing is it all worked yesterday.

The clunk is the relays closing to give power to the coach, once the Surge Guard has verified voltage, polarity and such. If you don't have power after the clunk, the problem is elsewhere.

Do you have the remote display for the 40350? If so, it would show status, either line voltage (OK) or an error code if not ok. If no display available, best you can do is check the voltage at the main load center (breaker box).

My 2016 Bounder did the same and my new Southwind is also the same. When you plug in a few seconds later a loud distinct click and its all on and working.

This is normal whenever I connect to 50 amp service.

I just went and checked mine and there are two red lights that should be lit up on yours, and they are not lit up in the picture above. (post #3) They are to the right of the white Surge Guard sticker between the middle and bottom rivets.

Just reading what you posted:

"Trust me when I say the wiring is correct." That would be the first thing I wouldn't trust.

Why? "Worked yesterday and not today." "Dummy me installed the 50 amp recp upside down." "This morning I flipped the 50 amp recp 180 degrees to the correct orientation."

Now today it doesn't work. Aaaaah think I know where the problem might be.
I think your Surge Guard is telling you something isn't correct with the incoming power.

Yes, they are lit up when it’s plugged in. I’ll go look at it again. Perhaps I have a blown breaker in the coach.

Well, now it works. Mystery. I ran the engine for 15 minutes or so to charge up the house batteries. I shut it off and hooked up the shore power and all systems are go now. TV, microwave, fridge all on. My voltage on the batteries is going up (13.1) so I’m guessing it’s charging correctly. I’ll check the house battles tomorrow for water etc. last time I looked it was all okay.
Question, while on shore power should the inverter be on of off? I’m assuming the inverter is over ridden by the shore power? I have a big red knob in the inverter bay I leave on all the time, but there is also a magnum energy switch over the door.

LOL I am a dummy, but I'm a good electrician also. I had it right. I am trying to learn this RV stuff. Home wiring, which the shore power is, I have down. All these RV relays, inverters, bus connections, and that sort of thing is a little tricky to me now. On my rig I basically have no idea what is what or where what is. No information on that and no owners manual telling me how things work. Since I bought this used rig back in late April I have not had a place to park it and figure stuff out. I just bought a new home with a really great RV pad. I updated the really bad 30 amp hook up it had to a 50 amp deal with new wire all the way to the house breaker box. Now through the process of elimination I'll be able to figure out what breakers work what and where all those unmarked fuses go. Nothing is marked anywhere on this 2017 Holiday Rambler Diesel pusher in Class A gas Bounder clothes.

(My manufactures info sheet that was glued to the closet door was for a completely different REV rig)

Glad to hear everything's working.
Your invertor on a 2017 will be automatic. Switches off when external power is applied, and back on when unplugged. Somewhere in the readout it should indicate the status of the invertor.

That’s what I figured.
I’ve done a travel trailer for a few years before this motor home. Not much to that simple Keystone. This motor home is much more complicated. It’d seem it would come with some sort of operating instructions. I just installed a new exhaust vent for my kitchen. Yup, pages of instructions. Everything from installing to setting the clock. Bounder has zilch instructions available for anything. Anything I’ve learned is via forums or osmosis. A owners manual would be helpful but could of cost the builder a couple bucks so no dice. LOL.

You should be able to go to fleet wood web site and download your manual.

Been there and done that. They have a very generic “manual” which covers multiple gas motor homes of various years. No “specific” manual for my 2017 35k. I’ve owned tractors, trucks, motorcycles, Jeeps, and all sort of mechanical equipment over the last 66 years all with very informative operator instructions. Not sure if other manafactures offer operator manuals or not but Fleetwood does not.

The RV 120v "wiring" is just like residential and follows the same electrical code. The complexity comes from the multiple power sources, i.e. shore, genset and inverter. There are automatic relays (and sometimes manual switches too) to either transfer the load among the three sources or control how power is used. In addition, you have the Surge Guard power monitoring system that verifies proper (usable) power, something few site-built homes ever has (or needs). It can be a bit daunting until you learn how these automatic systems interact.
