We have a 2006 34H. I've replaced the Sylvania surround sound DVD/VCR with a LG Blue Ray player and am hoping to replace the (presumably cheap) speakers with the ones which came with the LG. The existing speakers sound OK, but one of the reasons I bought the LG was because according to the reviews it has 'great' speakers.

The Center and front speakers are behind removable grills and are merely hot glued to a piece of plywood. They're going to be easy. But there does not seem to be any way other than disassembeling the cabinets to get at the two rear speakers.

Bear in mind that I am not talking about the speakers in the bedroom, In the 34H they are over the dinette and the couch on the other side.

Has anybody replaced their rear surround speakers?

Nobody?

I replaced the other speakers and they sound so much better it's worth preceeding.

Here's what I plan to do:

I'm going to cut into the speaker area with a jigsaw from the adjoining cabinet. A small hole at first to make sure there's no wiring I can damage. Then I'm going to make an access port & cover and cut the hole to that size.

I've been sticking the new speakers down with industrial strength velcro. Not quiet as strong as the hot glue Fleetwood uses, but not likely to go anywhere either.

It looked to me like Fleetwood did not pay any attention to the polarity (or phasing) when they installed the original speakers. That could account for some of the 'tinnyness' I heard in the old speakers.

I wasn't able to replace the sub-woofer. The new one is too big! I'm thinking about relocating but it might not be worth the trouble.

If anybody has another idea please share it with me! Cutting an access port is going to change the interior of the adjoining cabinet and if there's another way I'd like to hear about it.

A quick nonanswer for you. On my 38L Bounder the passenger side surround speaker has a regular pull off (velcro) cover. However the driver side looks like they built the cabinet aound the speaker. The cloth is on the inside and appears nonremovable and there are no access panels on the bottom or the sides. That only leave the top, which is the top of a slide and I would not think they would place a potential leak up there. Bedroom covers look like covers or caps but I have found them to be nonremovable too.

Both of the rear speakers are of the 'build the cabinet around the speaker' variety. I was hoping that there was an access port or some other non-destructive way of getting at them. BTW: I have the same problem with the bedroom speakers.

So far I'm impressed with the build quality of the Bounder as compared to my previous RV's, surprising that they would overlook something so simple and inexpensive as speaker access but have so many places where one can turn the water pump on or off! (No more getting up in the middle of the night because the pump burps, just roll over & hit the switch!)
