Switch to Locking Gas Cap

I have a 2006 Pace Arrow 37C. It takes regular unleaded gas. The OEM screw in gas cap, located behind the license plate, does not lock with a key.

There’s been a recent uptick in gas thefts from vehicles in my community, so I think it’s time to change the RV cap to a locking one.

Can I just buy any sturdy, weather resistant locking cap for my Pace Arrow RV?
I’ve found several different types/styles when I Googled it, in a wide range of prices. Several available at Walmart.

Don’t want to break the bank on a lock, but want one that is sturdy and weather resistant, and fits, of course.

Thank you.

Got mine at auto parts store, was for a Ford and you can take them to try them to be sure of the fit. I currently have two of them I don't use.

If it's not tight, your Check Engine Light (CEL) will probably come on after a few miles. Putting the old one back on will clear the CEL after a few more miles.

Locking gas caps won't stop a thief from cutting the hose and taking the gas. Happened twice to the 12 person van at the retirement center I worked at. Cost more to repair then van than the fuel was worth and they still got the gas.

Take your nonlocking cap to and auto parts store. There is no universal cap.

A locking gas cap is not neccessary on a Pace Arrow with the rear fill behind the license plate. The fill line is so long (with three sharp turns) a thief can not thread a hose down it. If they are that desperate for gas, they will cut the fill line at the fuel tank.

My Southwind has the same setup but I just recently replaced the cap with a locking one. Not so much to prevent theft but just to make it a little harder to pour some contamination into the tank. Probably not going to ever happen but cleaning out an 80 gal tank would be no fun.
