Towing 3k with 2001 Bounder, no trailer brakes

I want to tow my small car on a car dolly with no brakes. 3,000 pounds total.. Problem? Should I add brakes?

I wouldn't advise no brakes. Problem? Only if it breaks loose & goes careening down the freeway to hit another vehicle or if you can't stop a 10 ton coach in enough distance because you have an extra 3+k pounds pushing you & you didn't have trailer brakes. Then the biggest problem you'll have is losing all you have to a plaintiff's lawyer. Should you add brakes? Definitely.

Besides in almost all states, a 3K trailer is required to have a break-away brake system.

Correct, even the states that don’t require six brakes under a specific weight do have break away braking requirement.

Had them setup on our Toad and wouldn’t tow without. Much better in an emergency stop also with the added braking.

Look for a car dolly with surge brakes. Nothing else required.

Yes a dolly will work. All you have to do is find space for it when you are parked. Because of that, we tow four-down.

I built the tow dolly with the intention of selling it, make a few bucks and build another to keep. I have changed my mind and keeping this one. I can add brakes for $138 so that's the way to go.

Our toad can't be towed 4 down or I'd go that route.
Thanks
