2005 Southwind (again). I am considering replacing the roof TV antenna. I think I'd like to replace the antenna coax cable from the antenna down to the TV also so I'll "know" what is there. Has anyone replaced the tv cable coax? I have this vision of splicing the new to the old and pulling the old out and the new will follow (great dreamer, huh?). Any ideas?

In a perfect world that would be the case, what you need to look at is where the antenna islocated and where the wire needs to go, if you had a stright run that it might work but any turns at all and it's not going to move. need to fill us in on the locations might can run through some cabinets

If it is a straight shot go for it but if it goes around a lot of corners you may be in trouble. RF cables don't like to be stretched, the whole transmission characteristic changes.

Well. Just went out and removed a few panels to conduct a routing survey. It is good that the original coax looks good as it is.

Well it's going to be RG-6 or RG-59 RG-6 is the better one some units have the better cable in it.

Leave the cable and just replace the connectors otherwise you may have to uncover the entire route the cable takes. More than likely you are going to find the cable will either be taped or zip tied to other wires and possibly hard clamped somewhere. If you are committed to replacing the cable then just abandoned the original in place and run the new cable in the easiest path possible to where it needs to go.

For the exposed connector at the antenna I would lather up with a good quality silicone grease (not RTV or something that hardens) and then heat shrink to weather seal. Also spend the money for high quality connectors that need to be crimped or pressed on and are made for exposed areas.
