Ultra Guard installation of Bounder 35K

Who has installed an Ultra Guard rock guard on their Bounder 35K? What did you use to mount it and which size guard did you use? Seems there is a bar that can be purchased but I can't find a picture of it. A friend mounted a 20" Ultra Guard on his 35K using a piece of angle stock.
So, if you mounted one, where did you attach it? I could mount it to the 2 central frame pieces but I don't like the fact that it leaves the ends of the angle stock just sort of hanging out there unsupported.
So, if you mounted one, what size did you buy, what did you use to mount it and where did you attach it? Pictures would be great!

Thanks!
Dave

Doc,

I installed the UG on my 33L Terra, F53 Chassis

Bolted an approx 2"x3" rectangle tube to the two frame rails, then bolted eye bolts to the tube

Through bolted a 3/16 x 1 steel strap on both sides (along the top) of the UG

Then hung the UG with anchor shackles through the straps to the eye bolts

Much like a DP flap it can swing freely which is a great feature when entering and exiting steep driveways

The tube is not visible due to it is tucked up on the frame

The UG hangs about 2-3" below the tube and crosses the RV just under the storage compartments

Finished off with an angle across the inside bottom (for shape rigidity) and the shiny stainless steel cosmetic bottom piece

Since I have clearance issues to enter and exit my RV access driveway I have to pull the UG up high and hook it to avoid dragging across my ramps and lawn

The install turned out very clean

This pic is very similar to my install, maybe give you a good idea

If you like I can take measurements and some pics of mine and post

Dark and rainy right now

3"x4" tube bolted to frame, just slightly wider than the frame (this size not necessary, just used what I had in the scrap pile)

Eye bolts to the tube, 3/8" x whatever length you need (make sure your shackle end fits through the eye of the eye bolt)

Anchor shackles are 3/8" You may have to drill through the shackle holes and use a regular 3/8 bolt and nut to attach shackle to flap

My shackle had to be slightly spread to accommodate the flap and 2 straps (below)

Sandwich top of flap with 2 steel straps, (1 1/2 x 3/16) bolted through flap with 1/4 bolts and nuts approx 8" apart

Bottom of flap has Stainless Steel plate on outside, angle steel on inside (for dragging and trying to keep straight)

My rubber flap is 14", with 4 1/2" clearance from the ground, yours may vary although I think our coaches are very similar

Radius the top corners for cleaner look

As you can see the flap is mounted just to the rear of the back of the storage compartments, not on the far rear of the coach. I like it up underneath, cleaner look to me, A lot like a pusher

Make a flap out of cardboard as your proto to make sure everything will work as planned

I had to manipulate the placement on mine so it can hook it up and tuck in between the compartments and the hitch while driving up a steep driveway accessing my rv pad

Keep in mind during steep driveways your flap may swing out and drag and get pinched b/t your hitch (or something else on the bottom of the coach) and the ground.... It'll get real torn up!

I tried to use stainless where I could

Ya, it's heavy

Let me know if you need further!

Good Luck
