Took our rig for its maiden voyage this weekend. Everything worked great but for one quirk. I could not make the water heater operate on shore power. We were plugged in to good 50 amp service. On my Revolution there are two wall-mounted switches for the water heater. One is "On/Off" and the other is "Electric/Gas". When switched on, the gas burner fired regardless of which position the selector was set to. No breakers tripped that I could find. The Atwood manual says the water heater can be set to operate on both gas and electric simultaneously to speed up the heating, so maybe that was active? Unfortunately, the manual is silent as to how this feature is activated or de-activated. (Thanks, Atwood) Any suggestions? The gas setting is pretty noisy on the patio side, and if I'm paying for juice I should be able to use it. Thanks.

I have a switch for electric and one for gas. I turn on electric when set up for hot water and leave it on til i break down. I turn on gas before showers to help recovery then turn off gas when done. It takes awhile for electric to heat. If someone turned on electric with no water the element burns out quick.

The two switches, gas and electric are your only controls. If the gas is in the off position and the electric is in the on you should be set. Since your circuit breaker is not tripped, it is likely a burned out element. Because of the location of the switches (mine are in a kitchen cupboard) it is easy to forget the electric element is turned on when the pump is off or not hoked up to city water. As soon as the element is exposed to air and not submerged, the element will burn out immediately. I bought my 2005 Revolution used and had a burned out element. It's a pain to replace but you can get the element at any local hardware store and it does not have to be a specialty part.

Sounds like an element burned out. Yours is probably in the back of the water heater as mine is so the unit needs to come out unless you have access from the rear.

When I had my 5er, I did the same as Da Rooster. Whenever I ran the genny, it would heat the water. Gas on 10 minutes before a shower, then gas off.

Here is the number for owner relations. Call 800-435-7345. Hours: M-F 8:00am -5:00pm ET.

My 07 Bounder diesel has 2 switches for the water heater. One for electric and one for gas. You can turn on both switches at the same time for dual operation. Or one at a time. I sometimes have to reset the electric breaker. Mine is in an electric panel on the side of the bed.

Thanks all. I figured out that my switches are mis-labled and what I thought was the on/off switch is actually the one that turns on gas burner. I appreciate the help.
