Today I was getting ready to take my 83 Pace Arrow to the shop for repair after a surprising cold snap where we had snow and rain over night, I developed a short in the wire that supplies power to my dash to the point it over heated and melted my plastic fuse block.

So I tried to troubleshoot it for a couple of hours to no avail, before I began to think, this may be weather related, being I had repaired all of my past wiring problems and everything has been working for months, so I decided to pull off the job to test my theory to double check it once the weather dries and warms up again.

Does any one know of such a problem and if so how did they correct it?

Well, look about for the wire that's burned, trace it to where it's not burned.

I doubt it was a weather related short. But the short is either in that to which it goes or within 1 inch of where it is no longer burned.

So far it has only overheated and not burnt it, I have to assume it goes to to the fuse pane and then to the ignition switch being it is a switch items, so I guess I need to try to track it all the way to the connecting which is difficult, and being it s over heating I have to also assume that for reason unknown to me it is now pulling more voltage than it was intended to, is that no correct?

From what I can determine it controls at least my wipers, radio and heater, but could control other things, those are the only things I have been able to determine that is not working right now, and even after I by pased the fuse, I still got no power to these item, so that too confuses me.

OK after a full week of good warm weather the power problem I had has restored it self, so it must have been weather related can anyone please explain what I need to do to insure it doesn't occur again?
