We have a 92 Foretravel U300 with a dash mounted Clarion ARX6570Z AM/FM/Cassette player connected to a remote 6 disc CD changer. There is power to the CD changer but the rest of the system is dead. I have checked all fuses I can find and now need help because none of the fuses are assigned to the radio................how does the AM/FM unit come out of the dash? I am not able to get behind it (where I hope to find an inline fuse) and the unit appears to slide out from the front but can't figure it out and I don't want to destroy it. The front tuning assy does slide out but thats as far as I get.

Do you have the owners manual for the radio? You may find some funny looking things in the packet .... There is usually two U shaped prongs that go into 2 holes on each side of a radio. The prongs release clips and you are able to pull the radio out.

Good Luck.... Let us know if you have the U shaped things ...

There are a few ways the radio comes out of the dash.... Often there is a front panel you can remove and the radio comes with it.. On my car the radio "Snaps in" and there is a tool that slides in to release it. I'm not sure how to pull it out of my motor home (never tried) but think it's much the same way

If, however, ti's fully dead

Check for 12vdc TO the radio, Usually it's the red wire, and look for an in-line fuse near the radio (it will most likely be in the red wire)

I mean.. the problem might be "up-stream" from the radio

As luck would have it..............no manual or removal tool. I will look for a place to insert "U" tools and if need be perhaps I can make some. I am hoping that if I can get the radio out of the dash I will have access to the supply voltage. As it is now, I can't see the sides or back of the radio let alone get to the wires.
Thanks,
Gary

I just faced a similar problem with a brand-new JVC AM/FM/CD/MP3 player in our motorhome. It worked great for a couple of weeks, and then suddenly just stopped working -- poof. We were 1200 miles from home when it died, so there wasn't much we could do about it.

When we got home I returned the unit to WalMart (where I had purchased it) and had my shop put the new (identical) model in. Lo and behold, it was dead, too. WTF?

Turns out the left-rear speaker wire had a direct short circuit in it. The old (and new) unit sensed this and shut its amp down to protect itself. Since we had no way to know where the short was (the left rear speaker is in the bedroom, fully 25' behind the dashboard, and that wire goes EVERYWHERE) I had the shop hook up the unit to only the front speakers. I'll install a dedicated "bedroom stereo" in the future that utilizes those back speakers.

So, bottom line: When your in-dash stereo stops working it may not have anything to do with the unit itself. Check the speaker wires, too.

There are so many ways to mount a radio that I can not advise beyond what I have already said.

On my Intruder, I suspect I take the dash apart (Very easy to do)

On my Lumina.. I can pull it out by hand if I have to.. W/o Tools

If the radio has the telltale pair of holes on each side of the unit, that is where it is locked in. I believe you can get the u-shaped removal tools (simply two pieces of metal) at most places that sell car radios. On a Ford SUV I had, I cut coat hanger wire to form two. My coach has a Visteon changer that otherwise sounds pretty much as the OP's description of his Clarion. Mine has the holes, but getting it out is not easy even with the tools to press the release tabe. I have found I have to work mine back and forth a bit while working the releases as the hole seems to be a bit tighter than the radio was designed for.

Photos.............Worth a thousand words for sure and many thanks for those. Unfortunately our radio install does not appear one that uses the "U" pins. I'll probably resort to contacting a "radio person".
Thanks for all the help.
Gary

Does your radio have a DETACHABLE CONTROL PANEL??? It may be behind that.

See: http://www.clarion.com/us/en/MungoBl...5/ARX6570Z.pdf. See page 4, #5 "DCP".

At least this gives you a starting point.

I just installed a really great Sony Radio/CD/Ipod player to replace a really lame Sony cassette player. If you have a DCP on the front of your radio, that has to be removed first. Then there is a trim piece around the unit that needs to be pried or snapped off. Under there are probably two slots, one on each side where a special flat tool slips in to release the catches. You can either make some or try an auto store where they do installations. They would have the tool you need. I had to replace the holding box and everything as it was a completely different radio even though they were both Sony's but I really love this particular brand and model, it sounds great and has a lot of fine features. If you want the model number I can send that to you on PM. I even hooked up my 10 disc CD changer to it, which is a Sony but can be used on any brand radio as it plays through a low band tuned station, not a direct control cable from the Sony radio.

Regarding the speaker wire problem, I doubt if that's your problem as you indicated that you're getting no power at all versus if it was the speaker shorting you would have power at first than it would shut off.

My Samsung Blu-Ray HT System that I recently installed in my coach was doing something very similar and finally the service center said to check out each of the speaker connections for a short or cross connection. Well that's exactly what I found. My left Rear surround and woofer are shorted together and the power supply detects it and automatically goes into protect mode and shuts off. I am slowly tracing out those wires to see if I can find the short. I bought a wire tracer that sends out a tone and I have a receiver with a probe to listen for the tone as I trace the wires conduit. A slow and agonizing process.

No bedroom switch. Our power problem was a disconnected power cable behind the unit in the dash. Was difficult to find because of the mass of wires and limited access. A radio store provided two tools that allowed me to pull the unit from the front and shazamm..............just like magic, there was the problem.
