Looking for advice on Class A Diesels

Just starting our search for our retirement home. We came across a 2000 Foretravel U320 with under 100,000 miles on it. Seemed to be built better than the mass produced models. Interior needed some up dating. Purple was not our first choice of colors. Are these coaches worth renovating? Looking to retire in 5 and get another 5 years out of it. Open to any advice you may have.

That would’ve been one of top my top choices if I could’ve found one in 2014. Had to settle for a 2003 Dutch Star. Very happy with DS, but you can’t go wrong with a well maintained Foretravel IMHO

If you can get it at the right price and the remodel isn't expensive go for it.
Foretravel makes a great coach.

The Unicoach (bus style front end) production started in late '95 and there are still a some of them on the road (don't remember exactly but they didn't make but about 15 or so in '95). So a '00 should have no problem giving you only 10 years service. You will also need to keep in mind that other than interior updates you will at some point need to update the slide seals, tie rod ends, and other bolt on parts that will be coming to the end of there life span.

You will have a learning curve that will seem large to start with but with time you will learn the tricks of the coach. Even if you hire your maint. work done there are things you need to have knowledge of. Here is an example. With their disc brakes you will want to read up on there service requirements. Here is a link http://www.meritorwabco.com/MeritorW...ument/mm4m.pdf

You may want to go here http://www.foreforums.com/index.php to talk to some hard core F/T owners about the specifics of a '00. But to answer your basic question, If we were in the market for another F/T, yes the right '00 would be worth updating to our taste.

After having someone (ask @ the Foreforum) do a complete inspection before you buy... if all good or can be fixed GO FOR IT!
Look at year models '99 to 2005
(There is a very nice & well updated 42' all electric here..

We recently purchased a 97 U320 with 99,000 miles, and just finished a trip down 101 to Napa Ca from Tacoma WA. Ran great, some little bugs here and there (gives me something to do). They are quality coaches, built to last or outlast the others. The one thing I had to do when we got back was replace the fuel lines, (something about not being compatible with LSD fuels) the hoses were starting to weep diesel. Ours also has the 450 Cummins and the bigger Allison transmission, I feel it will outlast me and I'm not retired yet! (dammit)

These coaches are built like tanks, we have a 2012 nimbus and it will out last us. If that coach is in good shape, meets your needs in floorplan, colors can be changed. I have been in several of the older coaches and absolutely love the little changes that the owners have done to make them theirs. The fore forums folks are a great resource for the older coaches. not so much for those of us with slightly younger ones. But that doesn't keep me from reading and learning from them. So have that baby checked out well and if good grab it.
