Hello jim, the big reason is no dealer will get into a coach for any more than wholesale (there is another NADA the dealers use that is not generally aval. to the public), the dealers love public on line access to KBB and NADA. Another reason is most folks are over backwards in thier coach from the get go. Also some of the older coaches have been very tastfully remodeled, but you will only get a 25 to 35% return on those dollars. If you look around older non-slide room coaches can be had for for wholesale or less, the dealers are your best bet most private sellers get real offended at wholesale offers, then turn around severial mos later and sell them to dealer. IMHO and past dealings.

NADA is a crock. They have so many "options" that let sellers crank up the price. How many RVs don't have a furnace or a refrigerator. NADA doesn't take into account what was basic in the original build of the model you're looking at.

IMO, NADA is only good within about 40%. If you're going to be financing, check with your lender on what they use to value a rig before you commit. We got so far out of line on RV loans that we went with a hoime equity loan to buy our rig instead.

Maybe Kelly Blue Book is more realistic, but their RV stuff isn't accessible through the internet.

NADA does in fact take into account what is standard on an RV. Asside from that you must read the book carefully or you will over value a coach. Also KBB NADA at the local library are not the 3" thick wholesale book that the banks and dealers use, that subscription will cost you around $300.00 per year.

No to private parties selling coaches.

Many years ago we bought our first motorhome from a person selling it due to his age. We hired a vehicle inspector to go over the motorhome and take it for a test ride. He said that he would check everything out. The owner came along with me while the inspector drove. The conclusion reached was that the radiator needed more antifreeze and the coach needed an alignment. The owner agreed to have this done. After he showed us the paperwork on the alignment we bought the coach.

The first thing that we noticed was a wet spot on the carpet near the dash. It turned out that the radiator core was leaking and we had that fixed. Then the fresh water tank had a bad leak and we had to fix that. There was a red reflector on the side of the coach near the back. It had a screw right through the middle of the reflector. I took the screw out to replace it and found that the one end of the bumper was being held up by that screw!!! Of course, the prior owner would not make anything right because he said that we hired someone to check the coach and it passed with an alignment being done. We complained to the person that checked it out for us, but that got us nowhere. It was a totally bad experience with several other things going wrong. We got burned and would not buy from a private party again. After that we bought from dealers who backed the sale up with giving us a few weeks to find anything wrong that needed repair. We also bought extended warranties on all coaches after that. As far as the person that checked out the first coach...we concluded that he didn't have enough experience. Joe
