92 Sun Voyager 5.9 oil change

Ok, I bought the oil and changed it. It took more than a gallon of oil more than I thought, 17 quarts. I drained old oil and it was about 5 gallons. I have a fear of over filling. Is there a oil cooler that is draining also. It is at the full mark on the stick. I am redoing this old girl she has a lot of class.

We had the Cumming 5.9 (12 valve) in a 94' Tiffin and I don't recall it holding anywhere near 5 gallons! I thought it was closer to 2 gallons. Great motor, though. Done the Killer Dowel Pin mod yet?

I have 94 5.9. Pan capacity - 15 qts., filter & cooler line - 2 qts. = 17 qts.

With 17 qts. in it, start the engine and let run for a few minutes to verify oil pressure and no leaks at filter or drain plug then shut down and let set for about 1/2 hour then check oil level to verify if correct.

Ok, thanks a bunch. I did all the oil checking and rechecking yesterday. So I must be full at 17 quarts. It was just a deviation from all literature I had. It was full when I drained it and it was almost 5 gallons. I drove it home 120 miles last summer and it ran great, so 17 quarts is and oil change. Thanks for the verification. Yes the killer dowel pin has been done. Now it is on to other fluids and filters.
