Hey All,

We had some unfortunate vandalism that left both windshields cracked or shattered. How much to replace these - ball park only? I wanted to update the police report. The good news, if any, is that the insurance will cover the cost with no deductible (Florida law I'm told).

Thanks.

You are correct that in Fl. if your vehicle has comprehensive insurance there is no deductible for windshield replacement. The average cost of a split windshield is $500 - $700 each. Labor is usually $250 each.

Wow!!! That is cheap.

We are in So Cal and we had both of ours replaced including a new factory gasket and locking strip. Our deduct. was $250 but considering the glass, gasket, locking strip, shipping and installation was around $2000, that seems like a bargain.

I had the installer replace and re-glue the new gasket fully (to the coach and to the glass) as the original gasket had 7 spots of adhesive to the body and none to the glass...

They did have to re-do the install as their first attempt didn't work correctly and after 3 months or so, both sides started to "slip" and "push" out the lower edges.

After their second attempt (complete removal, cleaning, re-priming and re-gluing), and a few trips, all appears to be well.

we paid $500 for one side installed. didn't take em very long. don't know how they can justify $250 for install.

Those that have done many of them make it look easy. Once in a while they get on one that fights them the whole way through the install and they still charge the same price.
The job is flat rate and therefore experienced technicians should get paid for their experience.

Exactly. Our GS windshield is designed to sit in the gasket channel with the locking strip holding it in place but without the "special" adhesive primer and main adhesive, the glass won't stay put as the coach flexes.

Currently, our recent re-installation appears to be holding up very well and I am sure it is due in large part to the expert installers we had the second time around. The second attempt took 4 men about 4 hours for both pieces.

This may seem like a long time but I was adamant that they properly and fully clean the pinch weld/seam area, prime it, the gasket and the glass and fully seal the entire assembly and the primer had to cure for about 1 hour due to the cold temps and winds we were experiencing at that time and the installers didn't want to take any chances...plus they needed to eat lunch.

FWIW, this is how it "should" be done every time. The problem is that some installers rush the job because of the flat rate and then have to re-do it.
