My technician has diagnosed the evaporator on my 2003 Gulf Stream Sun Voyager is leaking refrigerant and needs to be repaired or replaced, but cannot figure out how to get the unit out of the heat/evaporator housing that mounts to the firewall. The unit is manufactured by Evans. Evans directed me to Gulf Stream, but so far they have not responded.

Can anyone shed any light on this subject?

Larry

The "box" the evaporator is in has screws around the perimeter. These will need to be removed and the front half moved out of the way to gain access to the coil. Hopefully the technician will have enough dexterity to get to some of the hard to reach ones. Good luck and keep us posted.

RV Wizard, thank you for responding. Since I posted this, I did some extensive research on air conditioner leaks and decided to try stop leak before going through what appears to be a very costly repair. My last charge was November 2007, prior to putting the motorhome in storage until March 2008 before it went bone dry, and the charge before that lasted almost a year, so I thought stop leak would be worth a try.

Time will tell.

Larry

Larry, good luck with the stop leak. Hopefully technology has improved this type of fix over the years. Let me know when you have it don and let us know again at the end of the season how it is doing. Thanks, Mike
