on my rig -when raising the rear, outside, door to the engine compartment, rear rad., there is a heavy rubber material surrounding the radiator.it is bolted and clipped to the engine/frame support system. can/should this be removed and can it be left off. i havent removed it yet and was thinking that it would allow more visual to the engine but would removel have any effect on cooling of the engine.

The rubber is probably required to rout cooling air to/through the radiator and removing it will probably affect the cooling adversely.

This is very true if you remove the baffles per say, expect an overheating issue, they help the air flow through as well as keep the engine from sucking hot air back in
