Hello,

We have a 2006 Gulfstream Crescendo 35 footer powered by a Cat C7 turbo-diesel pusher. On our way home from Yosemite in a construction zone, we got four (4) rock chips, one of which caused a crack which has crossed the entire driver side windshield. My question is where does one start to find a replacement window and service center to perform the installation? Any and all comments welcome. Also, any ideas on costs?

If you have comprehensive insurance, call your agent. They can give you some names of companies in your area. If you do not have insurance, look in the local auto glass company listings in the phone book. Give them the numbers off the glass in the lower corner of windshield. They can give you prices.

First call your insurance

Second Let your fingers do the walking (Yellow pages or YP.com or Yellow Pages.com)

Search for "Mobile glass" and pick an installer

Installation, done properly, is a 3 day job but a mobile glass servcie can do it "On site" at a campground so you continue to live in your RV while it's done.

We had ours replaced in about two hours in Billings, Montana six years ago and haven't had a problem with it since.

So three days job is a little long. However, it did take three days to get the windshield shipped to Billings.

We sure got to know Billings quite well while we holed up there! Nice town.

INQUIRE about the installer experience installing motorhome windshields. They are different (the 2 piece ones at least) than car glass in that proper installation requires sliding the good glass out a little to make sure they get both centered and have room for both to float like they should. A very experienced auto glass installer put one in for us at home and he had a lot of trouble getting it to fit. One short trip and a corner popped out. He put it back and epoxyed it in. about 1300 miles later on the next trip it popped out again. Got a local installer to put it back but he told me it was not installed right as it was not centered. It is a two person job to handle those big windshields and he did not have any help. The insurance company made arrangements for an experienced installer in the next town to do it right and it took him over a day as they took both out, recentered them and sealed them both in. Been about 1800 miles now and so far they are staying. IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE WHO INSTALLS IT AND HOW. All just my opinion and experience.
