House batteries and dry camping

So I just spent this past week dry camping for the first time with my coach and realized some things. First and foremost was that I need new house batteries. There are two Interstate batteries next to the coach battery in front. Both of them are "RV" rated but are also listed with a CCA rating which in reading in another post on here, means that they aren't true "deep cycle" batteries intended for use as house batteries. Plus, I have no idea how old they are or their condition. I do know that I couldn't get any 120 supply to anything without the generator on and I do have the inverter. I couldn't even get my coffee pot clock to come on without the generator running. With good batteries, shouldn't the inverter at least provide a certain amount of 120? I couldn't even get any power from the generator at first until I realized that one of the breakers on the generator was tripped. Just trying to figure this all out before I hit the road in July for the big trip. Which batteries have you had good luck with that aren't $1k each? Can an inverter go bad and is there a way to test it? Any past experiences or input is greatly appreciated.

Inverters have on / off switchs or control panels. What brand inverter do you have.

The batteries you have aren't the best for deep cycling, but if good, they should run your inverter. They are probably shot but can be tested. They need to hold over 11 volts under a load, otherwise the inverter will shut down.

Best bang for your buck is a pair of GC2, 6 volt, golf car batteries. Because of their popularity, they sell for around $100 in many places. Two, wired in series, will give you 12 volts with a bit more capacity then what you have and much longer life.

If you have a large inverter ( 2000 watts ), you may want 2 sets of the 6 volt batteries, if you have room.
