Loving my Gulfstream!

I have been the owner of a 2008 Tourmaster 40A now for about 2 months. The biggest advantage that I have found with owning it is that it gives purpose to my retirement. It sits in a storage building while we are not traveling and I now find a need to report to work every day, just like I used to do prior to my retirement. Only difference is that I report to the storage building carrying my tool box, and my wallet. I also need to bring along trash bags as a place to deposit the garbage that I removed because it was improperly installed during the initial building process! (and the discarded garbage that was left where dropped in hidden places)
Love my job! Just venting, thanks for the soapbox!

Larry, They say that having a 'purpose', in your retirement, will extend your life. Those design flaws are done on purpose, to give you more years on the planet -- to keep buying their repair parts.

Count your blessings.

I could write a book about the things that I am finding wrong about this Tourmaster I have acquired. However I doubt there would be enough revenue returned on sales to pay for the repairs, so I will keep working to overcome them with the hope of at least retaining some of the value I expected when I spent my cash to buy it.
The closet slide has a broken cable on it. The manufacturing company’s agent says the cable was likely installed with it out of alignment. That causes a bind that will break the cable from repeated vibrations that happen while underway. Apparently it doesn’t take long as this coach has only 13,000 miles on it. I purchased a cable kit and threaded it through the pulleys with tons of patience. Something I have little of! During this process I have found the brackets that attach the cable ends to the slide were not only out of alignment but the screws that held them to the slide were either, over tightened and broken, or the threads were striped and the screws were just floating in the hole. The construction of the slide has a seam under the area where Gulfstream decided to attach the brackets. With the seam having a raised edge the brackets were installed centered on the raised edge and there was no shim behind it to keep it square to the wall. Therefore the misalignment! Now I have to attempt to drill out the broken screws and try to find solid construction in that area to install new ones. Hard to do when the screws are steel and the wall is Aluminum over wood! I suspect that I will need to build a longer bracket that will allow me room to find solid wood for the screws. It may require a good machinist.
For those of you that wonder what the heck I am talking about, here is a link to a very helpful site.

Hey Larry, just remember its your new purpose in life, otherwise you would be sitting at home in the rocking chair watching the boob tube and eating bon bonbs.
