I am in the process of finding a water leak in the bathroom, I have cut and have a new floor almost ready to install, here comes the question, I want to be sure I have no more leaks, The plastic pipe which I believe is called pex does not seam to be leaking but I did have to take a connection apart to remove the toilet, can I use a hose clamp on the fitting or is it a must to use a pex clamp?

Years ago I bought a PEX tool online that is operated by a pair of large Vise-Grips. it was the cheapest and smallest PEX tool I could find. I carry it along with the copper PEX rings and have used it many times. You will want to re-crimp an heretofore uncrimped end with a new PEX ring. You won't get the proper crush with a worm screw cramp unless you heat the tubing with a hair dryer. Good luck either way!!!

There are many quick connect fittings available for pex. They cost a little bit more than the regular fittings, but are great in tight places. Also, they can be easily released if necessary.

My local Lowes and Home Depot both have a good selection.

The fittings ernieh refers to just slide on and lock to the PEX tubing, no clamps or tools needed. Here is info on "sharkbite", one of several similiar brands of these connectors. The SharkBite® Connection System Hope this helps...

Thanks guys for the tips, I have seen the Sharkbite and have thought of that and I may use that in the future, this time I think I will go with the clamps. I picked up a tool and some clamps yesterday, I think I will be able to cut any old clamps off with a dremel.
Thanks again
